The internet at the Minneapolis Public Libraries block port 22 and filter the internet. No looking at Flickr for you! The Minneapolis Public Library merged with the county a year ago, and I'm not sure if the policy changed.

A good designer would treat it as an actual design project rather than merely a "make it pretty" project. A good designer would step back and examine the actual business and functional problems and evaluate ways in which design could solve

I think your example proves my point perfectly. A blog post on this guy's website might be more technically correct and complete, but it certainly isn't easier to use, or actually reference when you just want to look up how the string.repla

I agree with the sentiment here, but not the way in which this goes about it. W3schools' name is a little scammy, but the info they house is useful. The issues w3fools cite are pretty esoteric and/or very nit-picky. For instance: | www.

Whether or not it's true, it is certainly believable. And that means Yahoo has already lost the battle.

Jesus, I never realized how on message the guy has been for 30 years. If you showed that 1985 Steve Jobs an iPhone, I don't know if he would be impressed or be nonplused and see it as some obvious progression that he's had in mind for a lon

In my current and previous job, it was never brought up, but it was revealed in the background check done by HR. They found out either way.

The kid sounds like he is indeed boring, but also not the sharpest crayon in the box. It's too bad, really, because it would be great to have someone that was a little more aware of his/her rights to try to take the .gov to task for this ki

I'd put the odds of this feature even being used by most web developers at about 10%. If no other browser supports it, what's the point? It'd be much better if MS were to just take a page outline (from all the headlines) that were links and

Sometimes it is OK to use all caps. This is pointed out in the article, but worth noting again. You might want your text to read more as a shape. For instance, when using section headers that you want to be more uniform in appearance.

As someone who has gone to college and worked in a college, I couldn't agree more. It was great to work there as a staff member (IT), but as an adjunct professor, the pay was laughably low and not even close to worth it. Having a large amou

This sounds like a place that would not be fun to live or work in. Part of the vibrancy of cities and countries is that there is history and, yes, inefficiency.

A pretty nice design. The built-in tilting mechanism is genius: First reaction was "why would I want that?" but after thinking about it for a while, I could see using it a lot. My only gripe with these mockups is the typography on the world

Despite all the hate for American Express's laughably weak passwords, they make incredibly easy to dispute a charge. There's literally a button by every transaction on listed in your account, just begging for you to click it.

I'm a designer. Many sites I see that are made by non-designers suffer from two major flaws: - Lack of white/negative space: You need room for your elements and type to breathe. Along this same line, you need to give generous padding and ma

They had to go to Microsoft to get this? Reddit is open source. But I'm guessing they see open source as anti-american.

I believe the commenter on reddit is mistaken. If you're doing an internship for class credit (as is indicated in reddit's blog post), it can be unpaid. Note: I'm not a tax lawyer, so don't quote me on this.

Django is great, as is Webfaction, but if you're getting 100's of queries per minute, Webfaction probably isn't the host for you.

I'd like to see some real world usage rather than synthetic and (mostly) meaningless benchmarks. That said, this sounds awesome. Maybe the final bump that'll push me to ditch my 2G iPhone.

Tons and tons of people still use twitter via SMS. @EV talked about this during his (otherwise boring) SXSW talk. I don't see them ditching that anytime soon.
