Not even in the completely insane property market downturn in 2008 did rents go down, so no, this basically never happens.

What's the base rate for this to compare it to? Ie what percentage of businesses can't pay all their rent normally?

Not sure why this gets downvoted. IANAL but it every compliance training I've ever done, basing company business decisions on being invited to fancy dinners raises all sorts of red flag when it comes to compliance with anti corruption

Not sure what Musk's intentions are with this. Normally this will lead to the best people updating their resumes and switching over to less toxic places ASAP. You are left with people who are attached to their ancient code or who can&#

Most of these people don't have to work for Twitter. They ended up working there because it used to be a nice company to work for. New ownership seems to have changed that, not only in the things that were rumored they would do, but al

That's why we have multiple newspapers. The other ones can cover for deficiencies of a single one. The Post is doing great investigative journalism still, including this piece.

Please get a decent microphone if you don't want to wear a head set. Most room mics are just unbearable on Zoom. The Logitech one built into the webcam certainly is.

This forum also has an educated crowd of nerds at the heart of its community. Twitter used to have that too and was a much more civil but also less interesting space when I joined in 2008.

Can you elaborate what you mean by "unnatural opportunity"? The way Musk has treated employees so far seems to indicate that he doesn't really care about them.

Music piracy took off because people wanted to consume mp3s but the music industry kept telling them they should use CDs instead.

My understanding was that allocators nowadays have cache pools per cpu or thread and only rarely need to lock on global state (when imbalances between pool sizes necessitate shifting resources around).

Why does jemalloc need to lock in userspace in order to allocate memory? Isn't this an implementation detail of how the kernel allocates memory? I'm assuming jemalloc is maintaining some sort of cross thread allocation pool?

This is using IP over ethernet in a tree, which has an order of magnitude more latency and less bandwidth than what you would see in a supercomputer, even if all your instances end up in the same rack.
