Wow that's an impressive changelog. Both user facing features and getting rid of what sound like lots of tech debt. Congratulations to the people who made this happen!

If what you said were true, there would have been lots of Chinese phone manufacturers eating Apple's market share for lunch. There aren't.

You don't get a ginormous amount of crapware installed on your phone that you can't remove.

You have it backwards. Manufacturing iPhones is much easier than designing iPhones. Apple can manufacture somewhere else, but China can't Apple somewhere else.

What's the business value of publishing this research in the first place vs keeping it private? Following this train of thought will lead you to the answer to your implied question. Apart from that - they publish the paper and anybody

I always viewed them as more of a reference where I could read up how to find and implement somewhat specialized algorithms. I really lack the discipline/interest to read those from front to back, so you are not alone. Incredible books

We know that homeopathic medicines are complete fraud (ie no better than placebo). This has been shown over and over again in thousands of studies. What you are saying is that your car stopping because of bad gas is worse than your asthma n

To some degree yes. On the other hand, they'll optimize profit within the bounds of regulation, that's kind of their job. I wouldn't be surprised if margins on homeopathics were higher than margins on effective meds.

I think the problem with something like USB-C is that technology is still evolving (while AC power distribution is pretty much settled). Just imagine solid state batteries allowing multi kW charging. USB-C isn't physically able to do t

It's also governments who choose to allow this to be legally done. Nobody allows homeopathic gas stations that look like the real ones.

Blaming the pharmacy is a little disingenuous. Consumers should be able to buy medication without the same shelf being sprinkled with fraudulent placebos. This is something that needs to be regulated with warning labels or similar.

Yes, have you ever visited the United States? Their AC wall plugs are extremely bad. They wiggle out all the time and expose hot connectors before falling out. You can literally shock yourself by partially unplugging a wall connector and pu

If this had passed earlier, we'd be stuck with micro USB for ever. I want USB-C instead of lightning as much as anyone on my phone but I wonder what this will mean for innovation in the future.

Team size is an easily quantifiable metric of a managers influence/budget etc. It's also something that's almost never confidential as opposed to other business metrics. "Impact" and "scope" are hard to me

What a giant waste of taxpayer money, built when many - especially in east European countries - were already warning something exactly like this year would happen. Cool technology though.
