Instead of hijacking this post to start a flame war, why not promote mercurial without hijacking a post by drawing a parallel to mercurial's implementation of the same thing described in the article, highlighting commonalities and dist

You can set the config option `merge.conflictStyle` to `diff3` to see all three inputs to a merge conflict (left, base, and right, rather than just left and right); this lets you actually resolve them, because you can see the changes left m

NB: git apply knows --3way, but the patch being applied has to record the hashes of the blobs it applied to when generated (which it will if it was generated by git). git am also knows --3way transitively.

I remember when Diebold were Dick Cheney's personal election-riggers in 2004, although it seemed like a bad long-term plan since the plan was always for Bush to cancel elections in 2008, but I guess quarterly earnings are king.

This is completely false, there is a 'why' and it's that people needed to permit taking square roots of negative numbers to find (real!) roots of cubic polynomials. I don't think this book needs to digress into that, sur

Why did the author introduce the weird broken "move a negative amount of money" behavior and then never follow up on its brokenness? That was too distracting.

You read Andreessen's drivel and thought this reply to it was a "rebuttal" with "counter argument"s?

It would be nice if someone wrote a response to Andreessen's dumb manifesto that wasn't itself even dumber, but no, apparently if someone's rich and writes something dumb no one can talk about why it's dumb because point

Many people just support removing constitutional rights, and consider sometimes removing them from some people to be an improvement in that direction even if it's not total victory.

Patches aren't to specific revisions, that's the Github straitjacket talking. They're patches. They often are to specific blobs; those are recorded. So if they don't apply, use am -3. Specific revisions are Junio Hamano&
