The trick with why HyperRogue works as a game does in fact come down to hyperbolic geometry; it's not a gimmick. Hyperbolic space has a lot more space in it than flat space. The circumference of a circle grows linearly with the radius

All the things listed would be deflationary if anything (since people would naturally rein in spending to have a buffer against uncertainty), but you're not supposed to ask about the causal mechanism.

Yeah, I think pf.conf might be beyond it. It can perform simple translation tasks; I've had success getting it to output graphviz dot format. But writing that pf.conf requires a (simple) mental model, where it's approaching it as

Emacs is an operating system, not an editor; I'm really not sure why Stallman constantly promoted the "emacs vs. vi" meme. You might as well try to switch from Notepad to Linux. It's just a type error, and you'll ha

To be more precise, git clone adds the origin cloned from as a remote named "origin", unless you override this with a configuration setting or the -o option. The default is no remotes at all.

For avoidance of confusion, a submodule is just: - committing a commit hash from a foreign repository in a text file (.gitmodules), along with - some convenience tooling to check out that repository's tree at that commit in a subdirect

Merging is an operation which takes three inputs: left, right, and common ancestor. This is a very old algorithm, the diff3 utility on Unix is at least from the 70s I think? The reason history is a graph is to walk the graph and find comm

These days, with more young people developing, it's less CVS assumptions as such and more a Frankenstein of cargo-culted CVS assumptions they got at a remove from the Internet and Github's truly awful and confusing web interfaces.
