Oh yes I remember these. A family friend bought one to run his business on, clearly happy that he'd got a bargain. It was a piece of shit and he was forever running into compatibility problems with software.

I use Roundcube for webmail, which auto-collects outgoing addresses in an address book (and you can obviously manually add addresses as well). I have a script that periodically exports the address book for each user and uses that as a post-

"personal reality building" is the greatest quote in this whole thread, it's perfect. Will be using.

I've never been able to understand why mail apps insist on the word Compose. Is it an American thing? I've never wanted to compose a piece of text, and never heard the word used in that way.

The Newton came out in 1993, so the iPhone would be "like a Newton but you don't need the stylus and they got rid of the handwriting stuff"

McDonalds ran a lot of stuff on SCO Unix, those references are pretty easy to find because they're all through SCO's marketing materials.

I used this to lose a decent amount of weight a few years ago, it was a good read and quite motivating. Unfortunately I then got back into homebrewing, increased my craft beer consumption, and most of it came back. It's good to know wh

S02E01 of Coast has a visit to that area, if you can't visit it yourself. Great show. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coast_(TV_series)

Not even that, it looks like a binary of Skype was included in the repo according to the takedown notice.

Yup, Mac OS 7.5 had speech commands, my colleague named his machine "Oi!" and I would routinely shout "Oi! Shut down!" as I left the office. Never got old.

I've never used the Apple one, but Pocket Casts is the only app I've ever paid for on four platforms (Android, iOS, Windows Phone and the web player) and not regretted it at all. It's a gem.

That landing page probably needs to include a line or two about the technology - if you go straight there and have never heard of Anvil it's completely opaque as to how the app will be built.

That was very bad, yep. Also the trouble they've run into in Asia Pacific which caused huge losses - they were counting revenue before it was earned and also signing government/school clients up on long term high cost leases. They

This is one of my favourite ever Wired articles. I remember reading it in the mag originally, and printing it several years later to read again - it was something like 53 pages?

One thing not mentioned in the article is the size of the area and the population. I have no idea how big Cincinatti is or how many people live in those counties. So I don't know if those are big numbers or not.

Yep it seems to be, it indexes every possibility that the handwriting might be so that if you search for it then it comes up. You can see this if you dig through the XML it exports.
