A most excellent picture! I (English, from London) am currently teaching a group of mainly CS grads here in Mumbai (Malad, if anyone knows it). About 20% of the group are female, and they are very impressive. Based on my experience, the mor

Absolutely... giant red apples with a vinyl-like skin and mushy interior, so highly polished and waxed that a chance reflection can blind you. I call them ASOs (Apple-Shaped Objects)... and IMHO the only place they belong is in Snow White ;

Hmmm… I certainly do have the freedom to personally dislike a book design, whether the authorities say I should or not. And if that makes me typographically illiterate, then so be it ;-) In fact, I find the line lengths in many properly t

Yep… I can say from personal experience that Scala and Clojure are becoming popular in the financial world. There seem to be several drivers: the FP part appeals to the algo guys, immutability is attractive when looking at concurrency, and

Not the OP but… I took it to mean that you have a responsibility to yourself as well as the startup. You give them a lot of time and effort, sure, but you need to keep doing things like reviewing how the job is letting you develop, both tec

So? I really don’t see the problem with this. Sounds like you’re trying to make common sense into a bad thing ;-) “Process” seems to be used as a stick for both sides to beat their opponent with… you are either doing too much or too little.

I’m with you, and that’s one thing I really don’t appreciate about Obj-C and Apple APIs. You find yourself looking at classes with names like UICollectionViewDelegateFlowLayout and methods called minimumLineSpacingForSectiontAtIndex. I’m no

I'm seriously unimpressed with 10.9 in general. I bought a new MBP a few weeks back, and the hardware is awesome... the retina screen, 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD make it a joy to use. But... * I enabled Bluetooth, plugged in my Magic Mouse

I agree that the design is a bit old-fashioned, but to me sites are about the content, so as long as I can get the information I want without getting a migraine, I'll ignore it. Authoritative comes from content, not looks. In fact, to
