Here's something fast: the Holocene extinction. Since the dawn of modern civilization, countless species have become extinct, and around 1 million species face extinction caused by human events. Should we really be worshipping economic

Currently EVs are not remotely price competitive with ICE cars. You can get a decent new ICE car for $15-20k. But even entry level EVs seem to be $35k+. Until new EVs reach the $20k price point, I do not anticipate them going mainstream. Pe

You can say the exact same things about the supposedly 'innovative' companies. Did Apple invest desktop computers? No, they copied the concept from Xerox. Same story with the iPod (Rio), the iPhone (Blackberry) and Watch (Garmin).

I think the decline of Microsoft in the mid-2000's was mainly caused by them missing the boat on the two massive shifts in computing -- from desktop software to web and mobile. Google, on the other hand, is firmly entrenched in both we

Sure, nothing has changed yet. That's how it goes with acquisitions. But people (including myself) are more concerned about the future. At some point in the future there will pressure from within Kape to increase revenues. And at that

Isn't it ironic that this is said by Sacha Baron Cohen, who made a fortune from creating fake characters that attempt to trigger folks with existing prejudices? His characters try to get a reaction from people's antisemitism, isla

Instead of intertwining the electric car project with the other Dyson core businesses, couldn't he have spun up a separate entity and raised funding? Seems like it would be a very attractive investment considering his track record.

Regardless this is a very calculated PR move by Brave. And the privacy zealots and anti-google cadre on HN and elsewhere are eating this up. They are effectively giving Brave free advertising and playing right into their hands.

Kind of a ratty move by Brave to leverage all of Google's tech in their browser (blink, v8, etc..) while simultaneously suing them as a PR tactic.

To be fair I think the severity of climate change has only come into mainstream focus in the past 5-10 years. Just as one data point, when I was shopping for a car in 2012, I did not even consider CO2 emissions. Now, climate change is top o

If anyone is facing mental health problems my advice would be to minimize screen time and avoid using the internet unless absolutely necessary. More often than not screen time contributes to the problem.

Bitcoin is not an investment. It has no underlying rate of return. When you invest in stocks you get dividends. When you invest in bonds you collect coupons. When you invest in real estate you collect rent. Bitcoin is speculation. You are

Every time I read a story like this about Google employees complaining I can’t help but think how overwhelming a sense of entitlement some of them feel. Like seriously if they are so unhappy to the point where they are protesting their own

One thing I learned as a developer for 12+ years is that the title is meaningless and where I work, many of the highest impact developers would be considered 'junior' developers. I wonder why people have such an infatuation with t

I don't know the specifics here but I wonder if this is a correlation/causation issue. If a bunch of people walked out, and afterwards some of them feel mistreated for whatever reason, it seems easy to assume it's retaliation

She sounds out of touch with reality. First of all, she is using the Microsoft example to justify breaking apart the companies, when Microsoft itself never got broken up. Microsoft’s mismanagement contributed more to their decline than any

Wow, this is inexcusable. I hope Uber is found liable for this death. Someone walking across the road at night? That is literally the first test case I would add if I were building a self-driving car AI.

Thanks for sharing this story. I know it was a tough decision to leave the company. If you were in a situation that causes you a lot of stress and unhappiness, there's no shame in leaving. There are a lot of people being critical here.
