If you have a fairly reliable Internet connection it's worth looking into something like Subsonic instead. You run it but you get tons more features, storage, more privacy, clients for basically every device -- even ones without Flash suppo

At minimum it would kill Google's ability to compete. Every tiny move they made would be under a microscope.

The details are a bit murky at the moment but if Google is going to launch a music service that does not offer any method of purchasing or subscribing to music it will probably alienate a lot of users. Music sales may be down but they're no

This is Microsoft's ICQ moment. Overpaying for a company at the moment when its core competency is becoming a commodity. Does anyone have the slightest bit of loyalty to Skype? Of course not. They're going to use whichever video chat comes

Sounds about right to me. I would think for things like games targeted to kids resume-state would actually not be a desirable feature.

Some companies do offer 100Mbit packages today however it's mostly a gimmick. They would face a much bigger challenge/cost to offer every single customer 100Mbit. There's a surprising lack of demand for customers who are willing to pay more

Luckily DOCSIS3 scales pretty well. You can just keep adding bonded channels. 4 or 8 channel D3 modems are common these days but we have 16 and 32 channel models waiting in the wings. Since cable systems aren't exactly symmetrical from a sp

I seriously doubt it. Perhaps 50-100Mbit/sec which is obtainable using the cable/telco infrastructure already in place. I don't see any killer apps on the horizon that will actually require a gigabit of bandwidth into the home. Even today y

I've benefited before from eBay flukes so I always set a reasonable reserve price. I wouldn't suggest setting it too high but I think people understand there is a minimum price you're willing to sell at. I also usually set a buy it now pr

Self policing is working fairly well so far. Any developer who uses AirPush is taking a huge gamble. Personally I will uninstall the app, report it as malicious malware, and write a scathing review of any app that uses AirPush. I hope other

Probably a good strategy. I would like to have a pretty good OSX clone for PCs. There's no good reason to clone Windows -- if you have a PC you can just use the real thing. You cannot (easily) run OSX on a PC.

Is it possible the cell tower you're locally connected to is aware of its adjacent towers and communicates this information back to the iPhone? If you're traveling at highway speeds, or perhaps on rail, a 100 mile radius won't cover a huge

It sure seems that way. Sitting isn't a new fad. People have been doing it for many years. Even if you want to look at the last few decades as increasing our sit time dramatically it still doesn't jive with reality. Death from heart disease

It amazes me Paul Allen ever managed to become filthy rich in the first place. He just doesn't seem like a savvy person. Why even bother criticizing Gates at this point? True or not it just doesn't make much sense to attack someone who is n

Seems very unlikely to me. Why would Apple want to get involved in that mess? Anyone who buys a big cable TV company at this point is buying a ticking -- very obsolete, time bomb. Apple would have no trouble finding partners especially with

I'm not sure we're at that point yet but it will happen eventually. Once the iPhone gets a multi-core processor, much faster GPU, and 4G what else is really left for a yearly update? I doubt we'll see an octo-core iPhone 6 with 4 cameras, 2

I'm really confused about what you mean. OSX's Finder hasn't changed much in years. This is actually a big complaint of the OSX user community. They want it to change more. Finder in 10.6, even 10.7, is really not much different than Finder
