Your microwave doesn't need to be backed up or software updated on a regular basis. Syncing data between the iPad and a computer (photos, books, music, etc) is optional at this point. In the future I assume backups/software updates will not

They do serve some purpose in encouraging non-musicans to dig deeper. I think the first time you record your own music and are reasonably happy with the output it's a huge confidence booster.

I can never tell if TechCrunch is being devious to get page views or just lacks journalistic integrity. Before this story was updated with the information about the June 30th grace period it was completely inaccurate. After the update the e

It's a horrendous thing for consumers but let's remember municipalities lured in cable companies to build in rural areas by promising little or no competition via exclusive franchising agreements. The municipalities usually get a small cut

Good question. My guess is it depends on what components Apple officially accounts for as being parts of OSX. Keep in mind Apple was under investigation by the SEC for many years so they are probably following the rules extra carefully. Aft

The iPad V1's back was very resilient to scratching. Not sure if the same is true of the V2. Ultimately any mobile device is going to get some dings. That's just how it goes.

Probably #3. Much like game consoles have competed against each other for several decades. Seems to be a very good comparison. Most of the big titles will be cross platform, some tiles will be paid exclusives, with lots of smaller games tar

If they continue to make small changes spaced out over longer periods of time they'll be fine. No matter what they do a good number of people are going to declare their hatred for it but these type of people tend to burn themselves out pret

There's room for improvement in Android's notification system. I get serious notification fatigue with Android. I see that there are 5 or 6 tiny indistinguishable icons up there but I have to pull down the tray to get any useful information

I was disappointed Apple didn't address notifications in iOS 4 but like copy & paste I think they want to get it right. Whatever system they put into place is going to be around for many years. I would be surprised if they don't deliver

IIRC all the 3.x and 4.x releases until 4.3 have. I'm wondering if maybe that was due to having developer builds installed previously? I assumed it was standard practice but you're making me wonder if I'm wrong about this.

We're in a transitional period. The vast majority of people who have iPads do have a PC of some kind also. For now it's the most practical way of doing backups, updates, and syncing large amounts of content. I do think Apple will move in

Not sure how they could pull off a good windowed UI on a tablet sized device. 1024x768 with the requirement of finger friendly tap targets is a big hurdle. I suppose apps could have a compact UI mode of sorts so you could switch between ful

I think the Apple mind control conspiracy theory stuff is a bit outdated these days. You can 'convince' a small number of people to choose one product over another for superficial reasons through clever marketing but that's not a very good

Nice little incremental update. I think they did a pretty good job addressing some of the issues people had with the original model -- at least within the realm of what is technically possible while meeting the same price point.

When Jobs unveiled Lion he said their goal was to bring some of the best aspects of iOS back to OSX. Which feature(s) do you think make the Mac less of a general purpose computer? I don't see much of a trade off here.

That's probably part of the plan. If they had started at 15% there would be the same complaints. They would have to back it down to 10% to appease people. If they start at 30% they can back it down to 15% as a public act of concession. It w
