I would guess Samsung has already paid license fees or come to some other arrangement. Otherwise they would probably have already been sued by AuthenTec over it.

From the ISP perspective it's actually getting easier to accommodate these faster speeds. Very few customers can actually saturate a 100Mbit/sec connection for more than a few minutes. I suspect the usage on a 305Mbit/sec package would be n

How about a content rating system? People are familiar with this from movies, television and music. A developer could declare their un-sandboxed application the equivalent of NC17 while most users live happily in their equivalent of a PG13

The problem with it is that you are assuming that your users are blithering idiots without any actual work to do. I think we are assuming there will be more sophisticated organizational systems built on top of this abstracted file system

For cable systems there have historically been some good technical reasons why upstream speeds are much lower. DOCSIS3 solves most of those problems. If there is a demand for it cable upload speeds can jump to 10-15Mbit/sec in the near futu

I can't recall ever experiencing auto termination on Lion or Mountain Lion throughout the DP previews. My hardware is nothing fancy -- 2011 MBA /w 4GB of RAM. What are your specs? Do you often have memory hungry applications open? Most of m

My understanding is with these 'B stock' parts the big guys will reject an entire batch / production run when the quality drops below a certain threshold. So these companies are probably salvaging the parts and either testing them or just p

I'm surprised the Mac grew at all given how late in the quarter they updated the notebooks plus no desktop updates at all. I guess it just proves how little people really care about spec sheets anymore -- or maybe they made it all up at the

This is exactly why people are skeptical of science. They view it almost exclusively through the mass media filter. When you see massively conflicting stories on a monthly basis it's easy to conclude scientists are just 'making it up as the

I wouldn't be surprised at all if an impending Windows client was part of the timing for this deal. A resurgence of people using stand alone clients on PCs that don't display ads could have been a big problem for Google's business model. If

Anything that creates a bad user experience is ultimately bad for the platform so it's in everyone's best interest to get it fixed. In this case the update is probably 99.9% similar to the last paid update. That should really be a freebie.

Apple presently has the most to lose due to the size of their bank account. I think when they were forced to settle with Nokia they realized you must play the game to win. The companies that have decided not to play to win are being naive i

What about Plex? IIRC it's a fork of XBMC and has been available for both iOS and Android for the last 6 months or so. Nothing against XBMC but Plex is probably a better choice right now if you want something stable.

In the post-Jobs era I think we'll see more of this. Jobs was the face of Apple and he can't be replaced in that role. Going forward the best they can do is put other faces out there and let them be authentic and true to themselves in the

I think it's an honest assessment about the momentum the iPad has in the market. It's a lot like the iPod. Was it Sansa (Sandisk?) that had very good small digital players about a year before the iPod Nano? Apple flipped the switch on the N

The benefit is mostly to reach a bigger market without cannibalizing the existing market too much. It would be awkward to sell a cheap 10" tablet that is really 'good enough' to most people along side an expensive 10" tablet. How do you exp

Yeah I think that's new in Lion. The flagging feature is a little half baked since you can only pick from preset color labels. If there's a way of renaming them to something more descriptive I have no clue how to do it.

The delay is not good but these shareholders have to understand this is RIM's last shot. Rushing something out before it's finished isn't going to save them.
