I'm not sure I agree with "good coverage of testing". As of today (27th Mar) there have been roughly 100,000 people tested out of 66,440,000. That's a mere 0.015% of the population tested. I think that's around 1 ou

FYI - the author of the blog post created https://prettier.io/ which is a very opinionated (automatic) javascript code formatter. His assertion about "nice code" was that you shouldn't spend effort on making

Is your starter four days old from dry/dormant? Or did you liven up a wet one? The reason I ask is my starter was purchased online and arrived as a sachet of powder. And it took at least a week if not more for it to be ready. While the

I'm still in the cynic camp for a few reasons. 1. My flat is small. I can do a decent vac in about 15 minutes. 30 minutes if I do under the bed. 2. When I do the "big vac", I have to move 6 dining room chairs. Then shift the

On my street the local council has recently cut down 5 trees and replaced them with 2 tiny saplings. One is doing well. And the other is currently being used by some guy to hang his electric car charging cable!? I despair for humanity some

I expected this article to be about the downsides of being forced to work from home (possibly due to recent events). But it's just a list of 4 SaaS tools that this company happens to use. And they just happen to be fully remote. I don&

I'm just curious but... did this actually fix anything other than the spec? The reason I ask is that I find myself (with Rails particularly) spending an awful lot of time on maintaining tests that were written by a much younger and muc

I experience the opposite reaction. I'm elated! Especially when a conditional can be removed/refactored. That's 1/2 as many tests. 1/2 as many possibilities for something to go wrong. As long as the functionality re

I've been to talks by Guardian devs (on more than one occasion) where they talk about the techniques they use to make the site as performant as it is. From critical path css to font fallbacks etc. Variants of this talk over the years:
