Generally speaking, "the algorithm being a mystery" seems to be causing a lot of societal ills. What news we see on Facebook, what sources we see on Google, what pressure content creators feel. All of it causes a lot of anxiety an

This is a very well understood and existing market for PR agencies utilizing blackhat SEO. Overrun legitimate but negative stories with shady backlinks to get Google to penalize them. Simultaneously create fake websites, awards, profiles, n

Totally. I've worked remotely for years, and my plan should this take off is to build a fully remote company. Networking remotely though is hard and it's nice to interact with and learn from like minded folks is what I was trying

I don't think it does and, as an advertiser, people mostly exclude apps from a lot of display/video campaigns at the moment but it's being touted as the next big opportunity because of moves like this.

You can't in Google ads that's correct. There are plenty of 3rd party analytics services though that will get you that info once someone has clicked to your page. The integrity of that data though is up for debate and often times

It does work. Despite the anti advertising rhetoric of Hacker News users advertising can and does grow many brands very quickly and profitably. I think you've hit on some reasons in your post why though many people fail at advertising.
