Sorry, was just a bit confused when I saw iPhone web application framework because I usually think of involving server-side when I see that term, and from that perspective there is little difference between the iPhone browser and others. Be

I'm not really so sure what makes this an iPhone specific "framework". Its just a safari browser with javascript, except you can only capture click events. All you really need in order to make a website iPhone "friendly" is keep buttons

Luckily annotations, like generics, are optional. Because damn is that syntax ugly.

I know rails itself is sound, my comments are directed more towards rails/DB integration. The database always seems to be the real bottleneck..

If true, this is a pretty big blow to the viability of RoR as a large-scale platform, at least as it is right now. I've always thought RoR's tight coupling with traditional SQL would be a serious scaling issue. RDBMSs in the traditional sen

I'm having difficulty understanding exactly what it does... And I'm a technical person. If your product does a better job of being simple, you can beat them.

This is true, but unfortunately only really with the iPhone. Flash Lite works on all of the other handsets that matter right now. And its really Apple keeping the gate closed on Adobe, not the other way around. I agree though, widespread mo

I only say that because it seems few groups continue to build their product into something of quality after being rejected by YC and its sad. A prevailing view is if they cant be funded by YC, then there is no point in continuing. Its almos

As someone who was also turned down, my advice is actually the opposite: Do not reapply in 5 months. It's a mental thing. If you always keep the dream of YC on a golden pedestal in your mind (one that must be reached in order to be succes

Is the 1st edition a very good book? I've heard about it but never checked it out. My current favorite is Head First Java. I've successfully helped 2 non-hackers to learn Java with it. The casual (even comic) writing style is really easy to

Since you were lucky enough to be part of the YC program, I would suggest going back to them and seeking some advice. I'm sure they've faced similar situations (Kiko comes to mind). If you are getting sustained demand for likebetter though

With SimpleDB, you can still accomplish many-to-one and even one-to-many. So in your example schema you described, you could have an attribute (aka column) in your tags domain (aka table) which holds the ids of the article items (aka rows)

All valid points if compared against a single-instance RDBMS. Except that modern RDBMS used in any large scale web service will also be guilty of these points. When you shard/cluster your data across various master/slave DB instances you

Do you manually make recommendations for each request or is there some sort of natural language parsing algorithm that you've built? If the latter, then really cool this has potential..

The problem with most "traditional" RDBMSs is that they were not designed with modern web server environments in mind. In order to scale to handle the frequent and speed sensitive requests needed to serve web pages, techniques such as shard

SimpleDB shifts the burden of database scaling and maintenance from the programmer. Being free from those worries is a hugely important consideration. Even if it means having to forgo the ability to do joins or order by. And you can still u

Its the first major round of financing from a Venture Capitalist. Typically, it is after seed money, but you could go straight to a Series A without prior investments. Subsequent VC rounds count down the alphabet: Series B, Series C, etc..

This is a huge announcement, although I am surprised that it is not designed to support anything other than Python. This hindrance might keep more people using AWS than they might realize.
