I've grown up in rural areas, and I think that at some point, automated driving can be even better in those scenarios than humans can be. I have not seen any evidence of us being at that point today. Of course, the focus of these compa

You are absolutely right, and I'm not sure why you are getting downvoted for that. It isn't as if Hertz has any vested interest in this that would make them desire to make stupid mistakes like this. Arguably the individuals respon

I'm sorry, but everything that you said in relation to Tesla there is wrong. My Nissan with ProPilot can also control the throttle, brake, and steering, but that doesn't make me a mere passenger any more than cruise control does.

You aren't wrong at all. Though it does matter more if it crosses a physcologically significant number (thus so many prices ending in "$.99 or $xx,x99").

I don't hate dealers, but stories like yours are what I think of when people complain about Tesla delivery issues or service issues. Both of them are really far from perfect.

I don't understand the downvotes. Your point is valid, regardless of what people want to read into the reasons behind the price changes.

The words that you quote are from a demonstration video from 3 years ago. The features demonstrated were not available to the public and still aren't. Tesla's has never claimed that a current vehicle can drive itself without the d

That all seems like a big stretch based upon some big assumptions to me. It is far from conclusive that LIDAR alone would make the difference in cases like this, due to the way sensors have to be fused together to handle these kinds of scen

Autopilot cannot cause deaths as autopilot cannot drive. 3 drivers who chose not to pay attention caused those deaths. EDIT: (I'm assuming for the purposes of this statement that you are correct and those were easily avoidable by an at

You make a number of fair points, IMO, and people are often too quick to dismiss arguments like this. Having said that, this case is a bit special, IMO. By your own logic, this comes down to a cold calculation of how many crashes (and death

I mean, there are several competing companies now and none have matched the range of a 2012 Model S. I'd say it is fair to say that noone considered it possible back in 2012. Now they build them with profit margins that are at least as

I'm surprised that I haven't seen this analogy more often. There are a lot of parallels between what Tesla is trying to do and what Ford did in its early days.

You can buy a model 3 today for $35k US, and the car is better than what was promised. The sedan that Tesla released in 2012 has more range than any electric car produced by any competitor since then. You are right that people overstate the

Toyota used to produce ~440k cars out of that plant. Tesla does ~360k. I'm not sure that "fisher price playset" vs disneyland is the analogy that I'd use for that difference.
