I wouldn't do that if my phone had physical buttons either. I mean, it isn't as if the driving interface in question has no physical controls. The ones that it has are roughly analogous to your power button, volume buttons, etc. The ones that people are debating are a bit like the physical mute buttons that phones used to sometimes have. Some people still want them, some don't care, but there is plenty of debate.
