Nearly all "new" frameworks have been Swift-only over the last few years. Like you mention, CryptoKit and widgets, but also Combine, the entirety of SwiftUI, and even smaller things like the ProximityReader framework they released

Apple's Game Porting Toolkit ( https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2023/10123/ ) is essentially Proton for macOS. However, they've bizarrely restricted its use to testing your own games,

This naturally happens when engineering orgs are feature rather than result or quality oriented. As another random example, Apple shipped autolayout in iOS 7 with greater than quadratic performance as the number of constraints increased. It

Wheeler was also a former small ISP CEO, so everyone assumed he'd be in big telco's pockets. That he turned into the main driver of full net neutrality was shocking.

You can easily monetize Safari extensions by selling them through the App Store.

This, and Warp's insistence on passing my origin IP to my destinations, are two things I wish I could customize when using Cloudflare. Before going corporate OpenDNS had something similar, and you could even set up custom behaviors per

This is a fun point that's one of the differences in the For All Mankind alternate universe. In that universe NASA is allowed to patent and license all technologies they develop in the course of their programs. This leads to a huge NAS

The STP request includes jxl. image/webp,image/avif,image/jxl,image/heic,image/heic-sequence,video/ ;q=0.8,image/png,image/svg+xml,image/ ;q=0.8, / ;q=0.5

Then you'd think STP wouldn't offer support for JXL. But it does, both to the site itself and in the release notes.

Oddly, Safari Tech Preview on Ventura advertises support for JXL but the images don't actually render. So the linked page has almost no images, just broken placeholders.

APFS can do snapshot transfers, that's how Time Machine works for APFS volumes. It may just not meet their goals for signed system volumes.

Not really the benefit of the doubt given the app is out and no one has posted about it asking for health permission (AFAIK). Or any other permissions you wouldn't expect for social media (again, AFAIK).

I'd be surprised if it actually requested it. At the same time, it could just be an overly broad interpretation of the fact that they obviously gather any health data you post about on the service.

Those aren't permissions it requests, it has no permissions by default. Instead it's the broadest interpretation of data it could gather from any of its features and dependencies (an app granting a permission grants it to all fram

They're getting faster in Ventura. Moving to the sealed system volume in macOS 11 made them huge and slow to apply, but they're getting better. On my M1 Ultra machine even large updates don't take more than 5 or 10 minutes in

Yeah, the IQI measurements are aggregated, but much lower than the continent map, which is only to Cloudflare. So the high bandwidth figure noted by parent is only for Cloudflare.

Yeah, that stat is based on performance tested by speed.cloudflare.com, so it's actually a mix of overall capability and local speed to Cloudflare data centers. It may also be skewed by relative unpopularity of Cloudflare's speed

Internet may be awful overall but that measurement is strictly download speed to Cloudflare's speed.cloudflare.com test site. Since they have a local data center those speed can be great even while performance to the rest of the world

One area is its reusability story. Last I looked you couldn't create reusable actions in the same repo you want to call them from, they have to be in an external repo. For quite a while, private reusable actions were an Enterprise-only

Yeah, 100 Days of Swift is actually an introduction to UIKit, not the Swift language (aside from the first 10 days or so), so anyone starting fresh should do the SwiftUI version. I do wish Paul (or anyone) would write a good intro to Swift

Yes, that due to the higher confidence of a real person using an Apple device with a paid iCloud+ account as well as the simple fact that Private Relay uses Cloudflare underneath to route much of the traffic (as well as other networks).

Yep. I'm still on AT&T's ADSL (what used to be known as Uverse) and routinely get routed through Chicago rather than Detroit (I live 30 mi north) for major services like Cloudflare. Of the two choices I have for ISP, AT&T

Who's discovering DropBox from the App Store? Seems like they could drop that and be just fine. Much smaller devs have.
