Also there is more to air than it's temperature. I like a cool breeze even if the ambient temperature isn't overly warm. It helps you stay focused, when it's too warm or the air is stale people get sleepy. I posted this elsew

Just to give you more anecdata, I have had both auto and manual AC and I fuss and fidget with both obsessively. Part of it is that I often want a cool breeze regardless of the ambient temperature. I feel somehow more focused and relaxed wit

I was thinking the same thing, although in reverse: Imagine putting a few of these in as a joke and then you take it out and your parallelized code doesn't work anymore. Not sure how all that's handled on Haiku specifically.

I think you're exactly right, another poster raised the interesting point of whether where those lines are drawn is inevitable based on the circumstances or if we have a lot of collective control. I'd be curious to hear your thoug

I'm restating the article in response to a comment that I thought misunderstood the article at a fundamental level. It's idle speculation but sometimes idle speculation is interesting. Should everyone wait until they have conclusi

It depends what kind of individual freedoms you care about. I've seen surveillance capitalism expressed as the freedom of people to enter into agreements where they get free cell phone games in exchange for a trove of personal data. Li

I thought it was pretty well established. The author wasn't saying that people who value individualism don't value privacy, rather that the pursuit of individual over community values caused an erosion of privacy (regardless of an

I ran into this with a web app to automate unenployment insurance claim processing. It sounds so boring but it turns out that every state has their own process (that they change without notifying you) and they use different pieces of data t

I was trying very hard to remember what the other two "classic fun-for-kids crystal growing" chemicals were and it was eating me alive. Thank you for the answer, I still remember my alum crystals for the grade school science fair.

That leaves 0 margin for error. If your kid breaks a bone and you have to pay for $X000 ambulance ride to an out of network hospital you're screwed for years.

People bemoan the quality of software (and certainly all the complaints are true, we have a long way to go as an industry quality wise), but 10-15 years ago I remember it wasn't uncommon to buy a piece of shrink wrapped software that s
