Just to give you more anecdata, I have had both auto and manual AC and I fuss and fidget with both obsessively. Part of it is that I often want a cool breeze regardless of the ambient temperature. I feel somehow more focused and relaxed with cool moving air, no idea why or how normal that is. Air has more properties than temperature, that's the issue with auto AC.
