The good news is my Acura has a manual transmission so the number of people who can both hack and drive it is a bit more limited at least ;)

Given home prices are what they are now, I don't really think it's reasonable for mid or Sr level engineers making less money than what's required to afford a mortgage

You're 100% right and I see this kind of attitude all the time and it drives me crazy. Especially when people are worried about what others are doing, or complaining about second hand smoke outdoors, etc. People really need to learn to

This is only tangentially related but at some point we need to get over the desire of homeowners in large cities to continue to increase the value of their million dollar homes. This doesn't seem possible at the local level, so maybe t

I'd definitely prefer this outcome but I have a feeling we're going to go right back to where we were before as soon as interest rates come back down. Big tech starts aggressively overstaffing again while VCs pour money into mostl

Many tech companies are both unprofitable and contribute near 0 value to society. Not unique to crypto. Be careful what you wish for, or the only people left paying software engineers might be non technical companies who pay $80k a year.

I’ve been using EndeavourOS lately. It’s less of a distinct distro and more a really convenient Arch installer to get to a usable system quickly. And without all the extra BS of Manjaro — once you’ve installed it, you’re basically just runn

I'm in this group. There isn't really a better and cheaper alternative to streaming for entertainment imo. But cooking is a better and cheaper alternative ative to eating out, so that's where I've been saving money.

This is true, but not because demand for Model 3 and Model Y are much stronger than expected. It's because scaling production is taking longer than expected.

What you are saying basically amounts to "My political opponents are Nazis and so is anyone who associates with them, so they should all be silenced." And yet you're not taking the extreme position there. Interesting how th

Generally speaking they also don't pay software development well so I would guess they aren't exactly getting the best talent either. I think cars are cool, but I wouldn't take a 50% pay cut to develop software for them.

If they really wanted to make open source more secure they would just pay people to audit & submit fixes to widely used open source software. Of course the reality today is that the opposite occurs -- when federal intelligence agencies

My biggest complaint about velocity is that most people I've worked with don't actually think of it as velocity, they think of it as speed. The vector aspect of it is often ignored, and of course if you're going fast in the w

No, I didn't. This is an inherent part of adopting Proof of Stake that anyone paying attention would have been able to predict. The only reasonable possibility is that it's being done intentionally.
