I live in Ohio, and I would stay here. I’d rather contribute to my community than abandon it.

The “eligibility index” here is kind of a bullshit number. R&D per capita doesn’t make sense as a measurement to begin with, and even if it did it doesn’t account of population density and the artificial nature of the borders of some of

Apple really ought to invest more in server side Swift directly themselves. I feel like it has a lot of potential, and what the community has done with limited resources is impressive, but it's not really going to be able to gain subst

What’s the difference between the superior serving the inferior and ruling over them tyrannically as you’ve described? It’s very easy to exert power over someone and justify it by saying they’re better off that way. The reality might just b

It seems pretty likely that Flutter become the preferred stack at some point in the future given that it's used as the primary UI toolkit for Fuschia. That is still probably a few years away though.

They should add something about quoting the guidelines to this, because it's infinitely more annoying

Linux development is already dependent on large tech firms and has been for a long time.

It would be a lot more difficult than it sounds for Apple to allow 3rd party browsers and allow them to be good . Even on macOS now, Chrome depends on internal OS APIs which prevent it (or Electron apps) from being in the Mac App Store --

The downside is that also means a lot of the core APIs are a huge pain in the ass to work with, especially relative to something like Python, and the “solution” to this problem ends up being something like Spring which has to use so much re

This could be unrelated, this has happened to me plenty of times in the past and I think it could sometimes be related to either lack of sleep, dehydration, or fluctuations in blood pressure.

And who benefits from and promotes that? The wealthy and powerful. They WANT us to be divided along those lines so we'll all get out and vote for corporate Democrats who say the right things about identity politics and pretend to be le

Some parts of Twitch are still kind of like that. The Classic WoW community especially has been amazing. Met a lot of people there that I play games & just hang out in Discord with pretty much every day.

Just do some work in a dead framework for a couple years and then you'll be good to go. Even something as recent as Ember has little to no information on places like StackOverflow for the last 3-4 years, so you actually have to look at

I think it's a lot better than AngularJS 1.x was, the problem is that it isn't really better than it's competitors.

Interesting. Maybe the best way to not be doxxed and put on a list like this is to not associate with people who are involved with doxxing. Antifa does the same shit.

Biggest issues for me here were generics & the dependency situation, both of which are being fixed. But even back then, I loved using Go, mostly for what it DIDN'T have. Even ternaries, while convenient, inevitably lead to someone

All I've learned from this thread is that a good portion of HN hates rural America. Apparently the privilege that comes from being well educated and working in tech isn't worth "checking" although I'm sure a lot of

Yeah, I was expecting it to be either significantly more powerful than the iMac Pro or to have a lower cost for the base model. Neither of those things happened. I was willing to go out of my way to get hardware that's not quite ideal

How many people actually need an 8 core Xeon vs an i9? Almost none. And that's without taking into account how much extra you're paying just for the hardware you're getting on the base model. I was willing to compromise and p

Yeah the pricing for the base model is insane. You can get a more powerful PC with 4x the storage for half the price. And you're right about Nvidia. I also stream on Twitch, was hoping I might be able to get one of these to replace my

Oh I'm sure people make that argument all the time. I just don't think it holds up to reality. It's sort of just a dismissal of better options. The reality in my experience is that Java is just a poor choice for a lot of soft

It's the lowest common denominator. It's the same reason I haven't been able to adopt Kotlin at work. Everyone acknowledges it would be better, but "everyone knows Java". Seems almost like "nobody ever got fire

All mainstream media is also guilty of running misinformation campaigns and widespread propaganda all the time as well, so who exactly are we going to hold responsible here? To me it seems like a recipe for giving more power to the people w
