I’m a little skeptical of this story - but that quote is not evidence that she used a search engine. She could mean searching and checking out books in the library apps or on the library web site.

This thread is like people who’ve never cleaned a yard before saying “I’ve never understood the purpose of rakes and brooms - don’t they just move things around? Surely you need to pick things up to really clean?!”

It sounds like 7 percent of the 10 percent efficiency gains are from aerodynamics. I expected (probably naively) engine changes to play more of a role.

Bosch is still going strong - I know them as making mid/high end kitchen appliances and power tools. Philips still around too, though not the recognizable company it once was (might be doing better financially though?…)

I’d love to read an account of the ‘fall’ of Braun. Through my adult life, basically the only thing it makes that are still ubiquitous are electric shavers - which are great shavers, but hardly icons of design. Was there internal drama that

You’re right - I remembered the judgement, which, to heavily paraphrase, basically said “the NEL doesn’t matter if CDL is not allowed, so we only really need to consider that”.

There isn’t anywhere in the US that has 10cents/kwh residential power either (though there are a few places that are close): https://www.eia.gov/electricity/monthly/epm_table_grapher.ph...

The lawsuit is not about the “National Emergency Library”. It’s about, as the IA calls it, “Controlled Digital Lending” - which the IA was doing before and after the “emergency”, and is still doing now. The idea that, if they have a physica

I really appreciated G. J. Meyer’s “A World Undone”. My [lack of] understanding of the conflict before reading that did not prepare me for how farcical and devastating the war was. https://www.alibris.com/A-World-Undone-The-

I don’t find I need to charge - my phone lasts all day even with relatively heavy CarPlay use. I suspect it uses less power than you think it might because it doesn’t need to power the screen.

I don’t think I get this. How can a supervisor guard against the Linux side locking up? What does it do if it notices a problem, and how can whatever it does not affect the behavior of the system for periods of time that are noticeable or d

That’s actually arguably the source of the problem in a lot of these examples. In some of them, the bad alignment would look good if the text next to it contained more descenders. This could be compensated for, of course. For e.g. a single
