the screens attracted dust like a magnet
You just brought back vivid memory of something I haven’t thought about in years!
For those who never experienced it: the constant firing of electrons into the screen caused it to become statically charged over time.
It would, yes, attract dust - and if you ran your hand over a TV that had been on for a while, you could feel the ‘fuzz’ of the electric charge directly with your fingers. I can remember the feeling so vividly now!
- sh1mmer 3y agoAnd the great big thunk if you had a model that supported degaussing.
- cpuguy83 3y agoLoved doing a degaussing.
- rightbyte 3y agoFingers? Wasn't it the hair on the top of your hand that felt it? I might remember wrong!
- brirec 3y agoYou could definitely feel little pops/tingles on your fingertips if you touched the screen. A little while it’s on, but even more strongly immediately after it turns off and the fields all collapse. But also, hair itself has no living tissue or nerves within. You can feel hair standing on end because it’s anchored in your skin, which does have nerves.
