This is something that I implemented in Swift while working iOS engineer at XING.com 2 years ago, it was really a fun widget to work on, that recognized the link and loaded title/body/descriptions along with their `og:image` for t

Work & mental health are tied together, even more, now with remote work becoming more mainstream. It is well-known that working from home and being lonely in general can trigger mental health issues. I wrote these actionable ways to hel

Building a successful remote company is no different than building a successful on-site company. It's about culture, and about setting the right processes with the right toolset. Establishing a great communication flow [1] is key for r

Paul Kalkbrenner is great! I met him in Toronto in a show and shook hands. Super down to earth guy. It's funny that I ended up living in Germany — he's from Berlin :)

It worked out great, but you have to want to do this. You have to set out time for it. No wonder why people from Lambda School get well-paying jobs: it's because you have to be motivated to reach the goal. Educational materials/co

Bad. Went I went from JS front end to iOS, I was put in a learning period on my own + internship in the iOS team and that worked great. It’s how companies like Spotify also did it. They paid companies like the Big Nerd Ranch to travel to St

Totally. And more companies should widen their budget for this. It’s pretty clear that it’s also an investment for employers too.

Many envision & dream about the best environment for remote work. Most think that what makes remote work great is to work from a beach, or an idyllic place sipping on cold drinks. But the best environment is the one you set with the rig

Nope. Being sync, and being so extremely "sync" like that is just detrimental for remote work. You have to go async in order to really leverage the benefits from remote work in your organization.

No worries! You can basically have a native macOS app using JS — without using Swift, with the potential of having native mobile apps and web apps (react-native-web, which is what Twitter is using these days), all using the same JS codebase

react native + catalyst[1] would be best for you — to prepare for the future and be multi-platform, which is what we'll be releasing in my team[2] in the next few weeks. [1] https://github.com/react-native-community

If he made a software that is making companies using it millions, and he still doesn't benefit a dime from his work and explicitly wants to, I think he has the right to go this way.

This is exactly why I decided to work on building a platform for async video / voice discussions. You end up getting rid of meetings — people gathering in real-time :)

Completely on point. I've heard this from our users at Standups, that async lets them have the time to think and note down what to say, and don't come unprepared to a live/sync daily update meeting, for example.

Totally agree with this, and it's how companies like Gitlab have leveraged going async [1]. I wrote a piece around the benefits of going async [2] by the default within your org. I'd keep sync processes limited to as few as possib
