In this thread why are the rental options like iTunes not being discussed? Those distribution channels have the convenience of streaming, and a deep catalog. Is it because everyone wants all the movies for $10/mth or less rather than $

Agreed, but this is also classic business strategy (think Sun Tzu's Art of War--Attack where your enemy is weak). Specifically, Google and Apple are competitors in the mobile space. Apple is creating a product differentiator by includi

Or take the iOS approach. The phone is either in a low power mode or not. The benefit is that the user doesn't need an additional setting for each potential web app to set the threshold for a low power mode, it's all done once at

I agree with your sentiment. However, I also appreciate the web maturing and giving developers similar API abilities as a native app. The API may not have a use for you, but surely across the global audience of web apps there will be more t

I've been using DNS to filter out the worst offenders. I don't mind most ads, so my list of domains is quite small. But, I've found it to be an effective tool. I agree, however, that anytime a site is broken that I'm lef

I don't like change for the sake of change either, as that is just setting trends to help sell more product (e.g. the bi-annual iPhone case redesign). But, the OS changes you highlighted all have real benefits that move the focus from

I'm interested in the problem of how you would solve a distributed system that is moderated yet guards against bad actors. To answer your question I think these are one man shops because they get shut down before reaching the size that

I suspect robin hood would have had the support of the people that he helped, so donations is appropriate. I'd say where the analog breaks down is the media companies aren't exactly extorting the people, nor price gouging.

I find it interesting that a Polish man was charged by US laws, rather than under Polish law. I think he opened himself to US law by hosting the servers at one point in the US. Regardless, it is rather fascinating that his first visit to th
