It's nice to see this on iOS - ironically, the future in iOS app inter-operability might just be in the web (connected with services like Filepicker) instead of waiting for Apple to go native.

This seems like a lot of fuss over 1) an unannounced ship date and 2) a web page that deleted your carefully composed message. Personal anecdote: I wanted to change the credit card on the order. So I went to the Nexus page[1], clicked "Cust

A good anecdote re: the value in (not being afraid of) striking up conversations with strangers. I think a lot of people, myself included, have a tendency to shy away from such encounters - ask the right questions, and you can get really in

Side note: the detective in me has noted that the mystery mods somehow knew this was a Stripe hackathon project, as the original title didn't have the tag. whodunnit?

text-processing.com[1] has a nice api, the bonus was that they restrict API calls on a per-IP basis. So client-side extensions work well here. :) (meta: Let's see how much a smiley affects the positivity...) [1] http://text-processing.com/

We tried that, but 1) it conflicted with the `gray text` coloring (although we could'be blended the colors together) and 2) we just thought it was less intrusive this way.

I'm sure this is true of other schools too, but I can confirm that some psets at MIT can take upwards of 12 hours. It's not even a matter of organization at that point - the amount of thinking and planning to just come up with the idea can

With all due respect, this is anything but sensationalism. It might help to understand that the number of FFT coefficients computed is not necessarily the number of data points processed. Theoretically, if we have a perfect cosine, for exam

For those interested, I'm almost certain that this is from MIT's 6.042 (Mathematics for Computer Science) class: http://courses.csail.mit.edu/6.042/spring12/ There is a publicly accessible, most-recent-draft of the text at http://courses

Gruber's post contains nothing substantive except for "The criticism is simply that Roboto is ungainly, homely, unharmonious." The remainder of the post is a diatribe that only succeeds in saying "nobody else likes it either."

I've seen a lot of mathematical visualizations floating around, with nice JS widgets to tweak function values and formulas and whatnot. It'd be incredible to have a platform to build your own visualizations, built on top of a message board.

This is really cool! I've been thinking about fiddling with Square readers to read card data, but something like Hijack makes this so much easier.

I'm not sure if you're joking or not by trying to define a quantitative relationship between piracy and stealing, but here goes anyways: First of all, relatively pricing should not matter. By your logic, if Toyota's price was suddenly 0.5 *

It's equivalent in an ethical sense, not equivalent in the legal sense. I think it's perfectly fine to call it stealing, since it embodies the core meaning "steal" is meant to convey. You're depriving another of something that is rightfully

Really cool, any plans to add other data sources? FB might be harder, but I think G+ has a public search API. I see it's just a demo for now, but a dashboard view would be great as that "go-to source" for top breaking news.

Loophole 2 is called a product - what's wrong with being able to analyze public information? It's true that Palantir's software can enable wrong doing, but at that point you might as well blame computer manufacturers for building machines t

My wording may have been off. By "keep open" I didn't mean to imply that all doors were open - just that we should make an active effort to prevent doors from closing. And women-specific events reinforce a divided image by presenting the ev

While I'd agree that the root cause is unfair treatment, "ladies-specific events" only server to further divide groups. I like the parent's use of "organic" - let's keep the doors open to everyone, and let the system reach equilibrium on it

If we're discussing semantics here, when a browser parses it for rendering what would it mean to "add them?" After all, the HTML is only a textual representation of the rendered DOM tree. I think it's perfectly valid to say the inspector is

I'm curious as to why there's a need for a startup accelerator for underrepresented minorities. Why are those minorities underrepresented in the first place? If the answer is because of discrimination, then I would argue that creating an ac
