Show HN: FeelHN - Sentiment analysis for HN comments [Stripe hackathon project]
- pg 14y agoWhy don't you color the comments instead of displaying a number?
- MIT_Hacker 14y agoThey get colored if it is negative or positive enough
- gwintrob 14y agoChange the color of the entire comment, not just the percentage.
- joshma 14y agoWe tried that, but 1) it conflicted with the `gray text` coloring (although we could'be blended the colors together) and 2) we just thought it was less intrusive this way.
- maxko87 14y agoWe didn't want to conflict with the graying of downvoted comments. :)

- liyanchang 14y agoHow are you calculating percentages?
- maxko87 14y agoWe used an open source sentiment analysis API.
- dbaupp 14y agoWhich one?
- joshma 14y agotext-processing.com[1] has a nice api, the bonus was that they restrict API calls on a per-IP basis. So client-side extensions work well here. :) (meta: Let's see how much a smiley affects the positivity...) - citricsquid 14y agoAnnoyingly their premium link 404s, here's the pricing link for anyone interested: http://www.mashape.com/japerk/text-processing/Pricing http://www.mashape.com/japerk/text-processing/Pricing Free plan is 45k queries, $35/m for 450k and 1,500,000 for $75/m!
- anigbrowl 14y agoThis could perhaps be improved. It seems to employ a very primitive negative/positive, large/small dichotomy. I presidct that simply putting the words huge and new will give this comment a positive sentiment....
- anigbrowl 14y agoWhen comments like 'I'm pretty stoked about it actually.' yield a -50% sentiment, something is broken.
- brettcvz 14y agoDoesn't work for me on Ubuntu 12.04 Chrome
- joshma 14y agoHm, strange, it looks okay to me on my VM - Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, Chrome v20.0.1132.47
- graue 14y agoMe neither on Ubuntu 12.04, Chromium 18.0.1025.151. (I'd assume it's supposed to work on Chromium as well as Chrome?) It installs without a hitch, but the comments pages are totally unmodified — no percentages or color like the screenshot.
- mrkurt 14y agoGosh, I need to make much more positive comments.
- architbhise 14y agoguys you absolutely need Facebook and Twitter integration. Wouldn't be a real app without it.
- joshma 14y agoSide note: the detective in me has noted that the mystery mods somehow knew this was a Stripe hackathon project, as the original title didn't have the tag. whodunnit?
- pclark 14y agoGiven that Chrome and Safari extensions are "just" javascript, has anyone made a Chrome to Safari extension converter?
- psyph 14y agometa: This makes me so happy! :)
- rdl 14y agoPlease make it work on the user's own comments page.
- rdl 14y agoWow, threads like http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4180543 http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4180543 are amber waves of hate.
- ernestipark 14y agoLove the icon...
