Not necessarily true. One could put a coal power plant in the middle of a desert where it presumably doesn't affect the environment & population as much as it would have otherwise.

You use a previous version of Scala to compile the trunk version. It's turtles all the way down! Just kidding. The initial Scala compiler was written in Java. After that was working, they rewrote it in Scala using their initial Java compile

With an application using garbage collection it's quite easy to have hundreds of megabytes just sitting around, so I think it could be a good idea in some cases.

RMS is an idealist, not a pragmatist. He must believe this is the ideal solution. Or maybe he's had a change in opinion recently. I have to say, this is the only cogent, practical argument I've heard out of him over the last few years. I re

My eyesight isn't that great. My contacts don't completely fix my astigmatism. I can't tell the difference between the displays, just that the colors seem a bit brighter on one than the other. A retina display seems like a waste for me. I s

The standard machine learning approach for doing exactly what you describe is to use a conditional random field. I don't think wikipedia has a great page on it , but check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conditional_random_field for a ju

Yelp has looked at using collaborative filtering to improve recommendation accuracy (this technology could handle the spaghetti case you mentioned), and it looks like someone (probably an intern) published a paper on it. http://cs229.stanf

I met Phil at Scaladays in 2011. He was such a nice guy. I remember having some ideas about how to improve the efficiency of hash array trie maps for certain cases and types of data and I remember how encouraging our conversation was. He'll

Also - what do your monetization plans look like? I don't think this is something to take lightly. You'll never be able to charge teachers much for the service. Maybe enough for a lifestyle business though, if that's what you're interested
