Steve's second response tells us that he's well aware of what they're doing. The platform is going to be heavily guarded. If you make something for the iPhone or iPad you're going to have to hire fan-boys or developers who are very, very wi

That's exactly what I thought. $data is okay if the context is very obvious but enumerating is confusing, unmaintainable.

My problem with PostgreSQL is that you're half expected to tweak it to your needs. Ideally I would have to record and replay real life activity against the database for each adjustment. It's too much work to do properly. An expert could pro

True. kraftwerk is a deployment tool (Python WSGI only) and Fabric is more general although it leans towards deployment automation.

If you're running an open product, Github by itself has huge advantages I'm beginning to realize. It's a known ecosystem that lowers barriers for everyone.

I worked for Coca-Cola on the container floor in my teens. It's insane how much small point pressure a plastic bottle can take. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49ScJUCqj98 We had fun throwing 2L bottles on the floor. If they struck the flo

I'd dive into EC2 if you're going to be experimenting. For my purposes it's great to be billed only for your exact usage. Transfers to and from S3 are fast and cheap too.

Don't underestimate how ITERATIVE the design process is. Do something then tweak it, then do it again then tweak it. Don't think that everything is ruined and hopeless just because you can't get your ideas down right away. Iterate!

You don't have to do everything. If you try to you will be overwhelmed and unless you're a genius it will become demotivating if you think you have to learn all of it. Do you want to work on large or small jobs? For large jobs you will need

I'm interested in testing deployments locally with some virtualization. Currently I've been looking at doing this with a Python library against VirtualBox. Would I perhaps be better off doing this with a free variant of VMWare? (currently l
