Jeez, some of those movies are dreadful, and there's almost nothing on the list from before 1990. 1954 - Gog (robots that look like robots and not people in metal suits) 1957 - Desk Set (non-stupid treadment of an early computer) 1970

I'd also think "It's $1400 cheaper than Delphi" would be a good selling point. I started using Turbo Pascal in college when it was $49. Given that Embarcadero Delphi is competing with a lot of stuff that is free and high

So how does this work with stuff like virus scanners or text-searches that read all the bytes of all the files in a hierarchy? Does it load up all the files locally and then LRU-discard them only to load them all up again the next time the

Looks like Godot is OpenGL-only, while Unity can also target DirectX up to version 12. That might be a problem if you're targeting XBox, but it's likely not a problem otherwise.

Yeah, these videos are puzzling, but they seem to keep getting votes. All I ever see on them is a very choppy video of a game sprite failing badly and repeatedly. Are they actually running them for a long time, and they plan to show off muc

I know it's low-tech, but I just keep a pad of sticky notes in my laptop bag. If I write a note, I can stick it to the screen when I close the laptop, and it's there to remind me when I get back to the office. And my cousin is a s

Yeah, another vote for the Aeron. I have a couple that I've owned for well over ten years. I definitely consider it more of a "durable good" than the store-brand chairs. Only complaint is that, apart from replacing the wheels

Having done TRS-80 BASIC for a couple of years in high school, Turbo Pascal was a game-changer. I had a TinyPascal compiler for TRS-80, but Turbo Pascal converted me the moment I saw someone switch from editing to compiling without actually

I think my favorite part of that game was Cher as the voice of the fortune-telling machine. The whole part of the fortune telling machine was to allow you to save your in-game progress in exchange for coins. Probably the first game ever tha

Here are direct links. Looks like they haven't updated the names in the URL's, but this downloads the 2017 RC. https://aka.ms/vs/15/release/vs_Community.exe https://aka.ms/vs/15

FWIW, this is actually a rebranding of Xamarin Studio, so it only handles C# and F#. It's a bit puzzling, as VSCode seemed to be the tool that was going to take over all the Xamarin Studio features.

Looks like the download page is getting hammered. FWIW, the download buttons on the big white panels didn't work for me. If you scroll further down the page to the list of all downloads, that worked.

The page that you get from the buttons on the big white panels isn't working. If you click on the "view all downloads" button and download from there, it's working.

Yeah, I got the same problem. I drew an aircraft carrier similar to yours. Google guessed "cruise ship" and "submarine" because it was comparing my drawing to drawings of airplanes. https://plus.google.com

Question. Does QT still have a licensing problem for closed-source apps on mobile platforms? Last I saw, QT's GPL/LGPL license required you to open-source the code that was statically linked to it. That wasn't much of a probl

I like that one of the search parameters is "license", so you can look for stuff that's permissive enough for your project.

Have they hinted at a release date? I'd love a snappier VS, but I don't want pre-release stuff in my build chain.

If LO gets the trademark, maybe make the name "OpenOffice" refer to "the stable channel of LibreOffice". Corporate IT and training would likely prefer an office suite that only gets feature-updates every 1-2 years. So ma

I assume this will be nice for stuff like Atom and VS Code, as you could embed the compiler directly into the editor and not have to run it externally.

I hope there'll be a driver for the Symbolics keyboard. I cannot be productive without a "meta", "super", and "hyper" key.

I've had very good luck with NSIS 2.1. It's pretty far from state-of-the-art, but it's really solid if you just need to copy some files and make some start-menu shortcuts. The primary market for one of my products is elderly

Yeah, looks like the libGDX maintainers made the same decision. They looked at BugVM and didn't like it, so they're on board with the mobidevelop fork as well as Intel's Multi-OS Engine. https://software.intel.com&
