- Hondor 10y agoWow. 27 years for burning down your business and claiming insurance, even when it doesn't kill or seriously injure anyone, and the value is only ~$200,000. Guilty or innocent, that's a completely obscene sentence! How can anyone in Texas safely make an insurance claim for fire when the risk of misunderstanding is so great? In this particular case, it all seems to hinge on people's opinions of whether a flying can could have jumped over some barrier or shot a plume of flame in some direction and other subtle details about the scene that can't possibly be known without actually reconstructing or simulating the whole thing.
