FYI, the "Making Things Talk" book is not about attaching voice circuitry to devices. It's about making devices that can communicate with each other.

As someone who hasn't dealt with Lisp since the 1980's, help me out here. Immutable structures and Lisp seems to be incompatible, as Lisp's lists are about the most mutable things you'll ever see. If, for example, I want

One advantage for Win/Mac is a filename filter. If you have a bunch of junk/temp/log files that you don't want to sync, you can filter them out via regexp.

Rather surprised LibGDX didn't do this sooner. One of the niceties of LibGDX was that it was 102% free for all platforms. But then RoboVM closed source and suddenly making an iOS game stopped being free. (although LibGDX was able to fi

So basically the software was saying "Somebody might be trying to hack me. So I'm gonna take down the whole system just in case." I assume you REALLY needed that piece of software to put up with that.

I think my favorite part of the article is the error code in the screenshot. . . "If you call a support person, give them this info: Stop code: MANUALLY_INITIATED_CRASH" I'd actually like to hear that call to tech support :)

Am I thinking right when it seems to me like the feds are kicking the can down the road? Even though the feds found an exploit that allows 'em to decrypt the current iOS, Apple's response is undoubtedly gonna be much-improved secu

Yeah, I gave up on Slashdot comments when the comments on the "Microsoft is joining the Eclipse Foundation" news item turned into a "Microsoft is killing Eclipse" conspiracy.

Yep, AMD. And the only thing I got rid of were the video cards, which I sold on ebay. I put the old drive in an external case and used it to archive old engineering projects. Kept the original monitor and added the other two. I did have to

Actually, my main development tower is about nine years old. And in that time, I've upgraded the processor, doubled the memory, upgraded the hard drive to an SSD, switched the video card twice, upped the number of connected monitors fr

Yeah, PDF's are generally horrible on small screen e-readers. On a larger color tablet like an iPad, they look pretty good.

1) The OCR'ed epub versions aren't very good. The stuff that keeps the bitmaps intact (i.e. PDF) are quite readable. 2) If you wanna do a big bulk download for your favorite e-reader, here are the instructions. https://
