It is great for building up the hardware side of nation, but not "software" side. The cultural advancement is lagging behind the infrastructure improvement planned by engineers.

It is probably true for platform companies, but in the end cash still rules. With respect, I think Facebook and Tencent are the only few "egoless" big players trying to stay relevant in the paranoid way. They will not give any chance to any

This tactical approach will only work in existing markets with known customers and known solutions. War is only the tool to achieve the goal, should not be the goal itself.

The valuation of Yahoo assets in Asia is about the same to the current market cap. The bold move is to focus on emerging markets and move headquarter there.

Exactly. Wish that there is an option for users to keep EXIF including geotagging. And give us API to query metadata of pictures (with privacy control).

The article is a little bit misleading. Serving a larger area and serving more people are actually conflicting goals. The latter is always more important in urban area.

As I understand, iPhones get NAT IP (10.x.x.x) in AT&T 3G networks, and outgoing IP shows the gateway location (at least some located in Los Angeles). From the article, the idea is interesting. But does it mean that it is possible for S

In the context, I meant all users in mainland China behind GFW, not Chinese-origin users.

If Inside Facebook's statistics is based on IP, not surprised that there are only few. All Chinese users use proxy/VPN/Tor/SSH to get access from oversea IP.

Trying to setup a private cloud in China because of GFW. UEC with Eucalyptus is nice for leveraging AWS API ecosystem. Hope to make infrastructure in US (AWS) and China as similar as possible. Anyone has idea how to make it more portable be

It will be interested to see how Bluetooth 3.0+HS (Bluetooth+WiFi, backed by Broadcom/CSR) and WiFi Direct (My WiFi, backed by Intel) compete with each other. But I think Bonjour may be the biggest winner if WiFi Direct wins since, unlike B

It will probably only work for the next-gen iPhone/iTouch if the rumor is true because the Broadcom WiFi/BT/FM chip needs separate antenna for FM TX/RX. The current WiFi/BT antenna uses 3T switch, no room for FM. No evidence that that anten

Looks like wiki spreadsheets for structural data with API. Still has limitation that we can't add columns, for example latitude and longitude for restaurants. On revenue model, it is ok to charge for premium API since it hosts infrastructur

Amazon (Joyo in China) don't have Chinese Kindle books. And Kindle doesn't support Chinese characters without hacks yet. With censorship on print books, China is already the biggest market for eBooks (no copyright though).
