This is really clever, and solves a lot of the problems with QR codes. Not just the hand-drawable-ness, these also look a lot better aesthetically.

I mean, I'm sure this is happening, but are they sure this isn't just sloppy prefetching? I've seen a lot of ad sdk's do this poorly, for example if you drop in five ad sdks with a sloppy mediation layer on it, all of th

This series of blog posts from Mike Farnsworth (a rendering fanatic and blender contributer) goes over how to create a "modern" ray tracer from scratch. Highly reccomended: http://renderspud.blogspot.com/2012/

Cycles is hard to use for animation because it is very noisy, it's fast to get an initial image (great for tweaking) but it's slow to get a noise-free image. Also this includes pixar's "denoising as a post process"

It's a screening question. If you make an ASCII spiral that doesn't mean you're qualified, but if you can't do that then you're certainly not.

I ask whiteboard coding questions not because I care if the applicant can do some trivial task, but basically to gauge familiarity. Someone who writes code in a language every day for their current job should not have any trouble expressing

Hello! I'm an iOS dev at Smule, and also develop my own apps on the side as an indie. Here's my thoughts: First, I probably wouldn't use a framework like this unless it was really compelling. There are plenty of free versions

I got my first Python job by going to a user group meeting where there was an interesting presentation, and afterwards introducing myself to the speaker and handing him a resume. As far as portfolio, I'm sure you can find someone in yo

This is actually a good thing. You've got something working, it doesn't matter if it's pretty. I've seen a lot of successful things that started out as ugly code. The ones that start out pretty and "architected"

This is why it's good to have a ticketing system. At first, just create tickets yourself for the ad-hoc work (but make it visible to the requestor). I do this for anything that takes more than an hour or so, or for even miniscule tasks

Write it yourself. ISO games tend to have a lot of little difference and it's hard to find an exact fit, plus most of them are just hacked up versions of regular 2d tile maps. You'll end up customizing it enough that you might as

Animation/rigging tools seem particularly lacking to me. For example, a "set driven key" in maya is simple, very common action. You can do the same thing in blender, but it takes more steps and seems kind of obscure. Blender

This is great. I'm using Dart on a (smallish) project, and I really like it. I'm a little nervous about whether it will be around in five years, and stuff like this really help reassure me on that front.

This loops over the triangles and converts them to screen pixels. A ray tracer loops over screen pixels and checks if there are any triangles that overlap it.

How I do it is play with the system as a user first, and think of small stuff to change. It might be real features or bugfixes, but at this stage, it's often thowaways like "make that button report the current frommet count",
