Very unfortunate that the Chromium team decided to go this route. At least the Firefox approach leaves it in the hands of whoever is serving the content. Chromium now just makes an assumption, and completely changes existing behavior.

This was great! I love coming across great, short talks like this that elaborate on a very interesting problem that laypeople like myself would never otherwise have even known existed.

The equivalent in this case would be if you couldn't even know what their software DID without paying for it. Hacker news is a forum for discussing topics. How can you possible discuss an article you can't read? You can, however,

Can you offer any actual _evidence_ that makes this "disgusting", or even a bad thing? I have a hard time believing that making any sort of education free is bad -- let alone disgusting.

Ah got it -- I thought maybe I missed something in there! Was a great book, for sure.

I really loved this book -- it's definitely highly recommended by many folks (I think know Bill Gates was a big fan). But I don't recall it containing much -- if anything at all -- about CRISPR?

I think it's more than that -- it likely stems from how the IT department is run at a particular company, too. I've dealt with many sysadmins that offer absolutely no transparency into their processes, and in many cases actively o

This is awesome. I was looking for something like this not too long ago and surprised I wasn't able to find anything to do this easily. Thanks!

Wasn't this basically Google's model when the first started serving ads? 2 or 3 line text-ads only? I guess it's too bad that devolved into what we have today. Or maybe they still offer that? I have no idea.

They typically try to re-review or amend their reivews when things get released/updated. The problem with waiting is: at what point do you stop waiting? Particularly when the vast majority of the time these release dates are pure specu

I was actually very surprised at the amount of folks that simply didn't respond _at all_ -- meaning not even an _acknowledgement_. The folks that I did hear back from were great, though. Nothing ever actually worked out in my case, tho

This is what I thought was the best detail of all this. I don't know the details so this may not be totally accurate, but it sounds like they didn't just shut down and let everyone fend for themselves. Looks like they helped make

I think the idea is that a warrant canary is regularly updated. And the fact that it is NOT updated would be an indicator that a warrant (or whatever) has been served. So it's the INACTION that triggers it, not an actual action (like t

I think there's room for both. I'm not totally convinced one way or the other -- but why write it off as nonsense immediately? That hardly seems fair. Maybe it works. It's not like the folks pushing this stuff are uneducated

I didn't even bother clicking through because I saw the domain name (ontolo.com) and assumed it was a PR piece. Also, Betteridge's law of headlines gave me my answer already (spoiler: it's "no").
