Seems odd they don’t mention the architect at all. William Crawford Smith was an officer in the Confederate Army. The Nazis also had an obsession with neoclassicalism. Monuments to the Greeks and Romans were a part of both southern US whi

This is by no means the main takeaway from Homage to Catalonia, but it’s an interesting corollary to today’s liberals who seek preservation of a system which hurts the working class. Look at the how effective the US Democratic Party was at

George Orwell’s memoir about his time in Spain during the war (“An Homage to Catalonia”) is a great book. He has a wonderful mind for seeing the politics behind all of the confusion and propaganda from all the factions that formed after th

This is incorrect. Just because the two party system has suppressed anything to the left of the democrats does not mean liberals are in any way “the left”; there are many leftist voices in the US (Matt Taibbi, author of the post you’re rep

The replies to this are amazing. A popular leader enacts policies which prevent multinationals from extracting the resources of Bolivia (including a lot of lithium, used in batteries), the leader is then pushed out in a coup which is suppo
