Are there large banners or advertisements on Instagram or Facebook pushing people to use Threads? (I’m on neither.) A few more things that might affect signup numbers: Threads requires an app to use, and it’s not available in the EU yet. Al

I was just sharing what I thought was a useful link, not editorializing (though I can see where it looks like I was). Amazing how that came and went and — I’m guessing — many people (even in a niche place like HN) probably don’t remember.

The source would be the organic-traffic and Facebook analytics for all those news publications. Whatever it is now, won't this take it to 0%? I feel like a similar thing was tried in Europe somewhere a few years ago and then quickly di

There are. I worked as a copy editor in consumer publications and dreaded editing one particular guy’s stuff because he took the “no passive voice” thing as gospel and really went through contortions to observe it. His copy had a really har

For killing scope creep, yes. But Rubin works off instinct and his own tastes and is forthright about having no clue or interest on what listeners want. Those aren’t traits that really make a good PM, but thank goodness music isn’t product

Verge churns out an “article” every few hours that is just a bunch of Twitter embeds sandwiched between a few sentences of fluff. Sometimes they even retype what’s in the Tweets, to fill up space, or presumably if the embeds break. (Or mayb

The "preferential positioning" seems to be just a belief at this point. Anecdotally I've seen far more people saying they've seen no difference in Tweet engagement since subscribing. But I agree with you -- it's the

I agree that this is fraud / false endorsement / whatever. If it's "only" three people, as Musk as claimed (LeBron, Shattner, King), it's probably manageable for Twitter to sort out, but I'm guessing a lot

PBS Newshour has posted three times in the past hour, and pbs.org still promotes its Twitter presence on its homepage. Until these orgs actually delete their account, they haven’t “quit Twitter” — they’ve paused posting.

There’s conflicting info flying around. Elon said somewhere that the “Top 10,000 organizations will be grandfathered in.” [1] Lots of publishers — Vox, Buzzfeed, Washington Post, CNN — now have a gold checkmark, which denotes an organizatio
