It's a simple economic calculation. Let's say I have $130k+ in college loans. Would voting for a particular person (or a set of people over the rest of my life) give me $130k+ in direct benefits? Probably not. The more poignant co

Google translate has been seriously under the radar lately. I tried it recently and was pretty blown away. Using it almost daily now.

There is no "low bar". You either do AR, or you don't. There is no in-between. Just look at Hololens to realize why you can't do this half-way.

The only reason they can "launch" this is because the driver will still be held responsible for the actions of the car, no matter what their system does or doesn't do. I.e, I can install a radar detector, but no way will I be

It depends on the level of commoditization of the asset or labor that the "suppliers" are providing. Etsy, for example, is unlikely to be subject to the same forces.

It seems to me that what we're seeing now is the normalization of Japanese cultural output, rather than the dominance of it. Set against the background of Korean cultural ascendancy mentioned by jpatokal (prevalent moreso in Japan than

"You may be surprised to learn that current touchscreens sense only the geometric center of a user’s contact patch, or its centroid, rather than its entire area, as shown in Figure 2." Not true. This depends very much on the API and the cap

Find me anything in our universe that isn't, in effet, an infinite chain of purpose (or cause, if you will). Just because the "purpose" of the cosmos is irreconcilable with the purpose that one being defines for themselves, doesn't mean tha

Following your hypothesis, it's impossible to have a rational conversation about anything. Look at solipsism for goodness sake. We can't even know that anything outside our own mind really exists. If someone chooses to define a purpose for

I like Viktor Frankl's solution to this apparent conundrum: the purpose of life is to find a purpose. If you haven't read his book, I would highly suggest it. It's called "Man's search for meaning". He was a holocaust survivor, suffering th

I don't have the book at hand now, or I could make a better example here, but I'll give it a shot. The trouble I had was with dissociating my thinking mind, or Tolle's ego, with that of the observer mind; in reality, and materially, they ar

Learn from yourself. Seriously, for a while, the more I read the more dogmatic I would be about meditation. I would avoid Eckhart Tolle at all costs, he is imprecise with language and his forced separation of "observer mind" from "ego mind"

Wish I'd seen this a bit earlier. I read a great article today from Leo Babauta from Zen Habits on essentially the same topic. Set a value system, and stick to it. That's exactly what this author is encouraging. I think it's unfortunate tha

How old are you now? If you're young, and you can hustle some financial aid (not as hard as you think), then go for it. A degree is more about access than knowledge, TBH. Go to a good school, find some professors working on really cutting-e

He's been very responsive. Look at the blog post comments. Also, to clear up a misconception, Kickstarter doesn't pay the project creators, Amazon does. It pays the creator individually for each backer, and then money is transferred to Kick

I use a mac, exclusively, and VirtualBox runs PSoC Creator flawlessly, both with WinXP and Win7. I actually find developing on the mac quite useful, since when I'm making a USB device with PSoC, I can use libusb (cross-platform USB library)

Hey All, Jon Moeller here. Thanks for all the support so far, I've received just under 20 backers from direct referrals from here, and I really appreciate it. This is a great summary of the pain points I'm trying to address. I really can't
