There are plenty of startups that have been successful on the .NET stack. The one that pops to mind first is Stack Overflow. .NET & XNA are pretty popular in indie games due to exposure to the xbox. There are many examples, but they

PetaPoco has been excellent so far. I really like being able to easily switch between dynamic and strongly typed results. If you're not doing "Select * on <table>" the dynamic result is pretty necessary. I do see where there could

I don't know what they use at Fog Creek, but I will say that I've been building a lot of things lately in both Massive and PetaPoco, and I've really enjoyed it. I've done several projects in both Linq2SQL and EntityFramework at this point,

Yeah, I realized I didn't write what I really wanted to say, which was, why would you stay at a job you hate? Or even a job that you barely tolerate? Or a job that you are apathetic about? One life, and most of your time is going to be sp

You only have one life. Why would anyone want to spend the vast majority of it doing work for someone else? The rare case is that they are passionate and care about the work. Anything else, and I just don't understand it.

If you're going to make an announcement that is going to be held up to the highest rigorous standards, figuring out exactly what to say is going to be a difficult issue. This presentation isn't for you, this is for the physics community.

Actually, it's possible to to prove that something doesn't exist. It depends on how well defined it is. For example, you can take the dragon in the garage from Sagan's Demon Haunted World. If you're not familiar with it, the example is a

First, that is a really poor citation, but let me just take it at face value. Here's what the article claims (from qualitative research btw) does have an impact: -frequent teacher feedback -the use of data to guide instruction -high-dosa

Your problem here is that you are using your own experiences and extrapolating to the general. You think any math teacher you see teaches like that. This is not the case. The teachers that have been the loudest critics of Khan tend to be

Raldi, I respect you a lot, but this statement is hardly reflective of what's been going on. Criticism of Kahn academy, especially by math teachers has been going on for years, only to be consistently ignored. This is them going 'well, I'

For no good reason? I hardly think removing discrimination is not a good reason. You might mean that the financial benefits are outweighed by the financial cost. Look at it this way: if you have an ADA from the start, there isn't going to

This is going to be very tough to enforce, but I think it could have a positive effect on many websites. Forcing ADA requirements could lead to a better design in some places. Heck, just making sites readable on a screen reader could forc

Are you kidding? Reflection is one of the most powerful parts of the .NET framework. Hell, the page you link to contains many examples of the different possibilities, but they're just a start. The only knock I know of against reflection

I think the point here is that if you have a properly architected .NET application, porting to any of the platforms supported either by microsoft or mono is relatively straight forward. So that would include Windows (all flavors), xbox, wi

Windows 7 sold 600 million copies. There's your motivation to create Windows 8 apps. Edit: plus, if you're already on a .NET codebase, you can target all of those platforms with minimal fuss (and more).
