Thanks for clarifying so this is a rework of UIKit for OS X? Rather than an layer over AppKit to make it "the same" as UIKit.

I don't understand why this post is titled "UIKit for the Mac". Apple already made UIKit work the same for iOS and OS X. EDIT: I'm wrong!

Really enjoyed the humble approach to describing the engineering mindset. Also a great look into how awesome Google management is for letting their software engineers explore spontaneous interests.

Things get implemented because that's what people know, not because people want to build their ABC data-driven business on a new technology. You're kidding yourself if you think implementing Fortran is helping anyone but the two p

Yes I did. It was focused on AI, which is a branch of software development. AI is the front of software that humanity is on right now. Therefore saying Apple isn't propagating AI = isn't propagating software = bullshit.

This is very true. Which is why I think this sort of BIM automation needs to spawn from a large AEC company, or from a startup partnered with a large company. We are basically talking about applying AI cost functions to the AEC industry (op

As always, it depends. If you're building a cookie-cutter high rise residential building, it's kind of well known and easy. The price has already been reduced to about where it is going to be. Typical floors mean typical documenta

I am not a security expert, nor is my perspective all-encompassing. But from what I could see, architects didn't have good enough computers, engineers didn't have basic resources needed for automation (let's talk about the fu

I should add - BIM automation is HUGE market opportunity right now. For example, if the architect can design the building, then the engineering optimization is automated (plumbing is well-understood...), and the accounting, BOMs, and fabri

It's tough to say for sure, it depends heavily on the project and the company and people building it. My estimate though is that proper use of BIM (not just design & engineering, but also accounting and time management... 5D) would

I am also very hopeful for organizations like AEC Hackathon, which goes around the world trying to get people to adopt stuff like drones to scan 3D as-builts.

Great, grain boundaries are really what it gets down to. I only have two things to say: 1.) Good luck testing and gathering data on these ideas. You'll need it. 2.) Are you hiring mechanical engineers?
