Personally I believe you cannot trust the US Gov. since Citizens United. This seems not only to allow the rich to purchase politicians, but under Trump it allows the current administration to extort companies. So, companies can easily pay

I do not like using VMs and containers, I do like FreeBSD jails. Plus my main machine is around 12 or 13 years old, so I avoid VMs on it. But I saw somewhere someone is working on a jail like item for NetBSD.

I need to get around and upgrade an old mini-tower with an AMD-586 w/512MB memory from 9.3 to 11.0, I may wait for 11.1.

Very True, and one thing people forget, we need to keep the ability to read these old devices. I was a operator (now admin) on a few minis in the early 80s that had these drives. The drive pack on the ones we had were removable and we used

If the Gov stopped Oil Subsidizes, incentivize the move to renewals and nuclear instead of promoting Oil say 20 years ago, we could keep our A/Cs and 60 degrees (~16C) if we wanted to. The sames goes to flying and beef, make it expens

I wonder how this will affect sushi ? Could people eating that get infected ? Seems in very rare cases the answer is yes. I am from an older generation, I have never nor will ever eat sushi :)

I believe NetBSD would be better for these machines. NetBSD supports old systems quite well and have a release cycle that in cases are longer than Debian. But , CERN may have some proprietary applications on those systems that force them

I think this will be an unpopular opinion here, but I believe gas/diesel prices in the US should be much higher. That is needed force a move to renewals with the US gov. trying to foster more use of fossil fuels. The way we are going,

But 1 thing, decades ago items were easier to hide. If the video from the camera got out, or to an opponent, that is harder to cover up.

I cannot help to think 1 or more politician or their children was caught breaking a serious law that they would have avoided if the camera was not there. So the fix is to ban the cameras.

This shows how much trust in the US has declined due to Trump. Netherlands is not the only or first country to do this, other countries have started this too.

Not really OpenAI but today's society. I say this started with the "just do it and ask for forgiveness later" attitude that started maybe 20 or 30 years ago. At one time most people had respect, even people at the top, now

I am missing something in the article. From what I am reading, AI companies are so desperate for memory they are buying Apple Systems and other hardware and striping them for RAM and maybe other components. Is that what others read ?
