Craftsmanship. You can have it with elaborate roman or colonial architecture or minimalist design. It needs to be present every step along the way from design, to building, to installation. But it starts with design and needs to be intentio

As a parent today, I often wonder if my concerns are the same as every parent of prior generations and that things will turn out just fine. But I can’t shake the thought that the impact of social media and addictive games for some kids can’

More than Python versions, I use pyenv to keep from polluting the system’s site-packages. It also ensures that my requirements.txt is sufficient for the code to run.

I clean up thoroughly before any guests come. Not because I don’t want them to see a mess. But rather because I feel a lot better when things are tidy and clean and being in a better mood means more enjoyment when friends or family come. My

It’s unfortunate, if companies are okay not tracking you, that they care little enough about their user experience to use cookie banners.

The article is light on details but it's important to differentiate between two kinds of AI. 1) Deeply integrated into the product. This is what we've mostly seen to date. Google Search, Facebook's feed, Amazon results, etc.

Lambda and GCP Cloud Functions do have cost controls. You can specify the maximum number of instances that can be spun up at any given point. I think the UX can make it more friendly to specify the types of traffic and cost you’re expecting

My older kids are 11 and 13. My experience differs. My wife and I moved away from family before having children. Our kids had plenty of friends they could play with. It felt transient though - perhaps because we lived in a transient area (S

I’ve trended in the opposite direction. I don’t particularly enjoy taking about any successes I may have had and I don’t care to make sure others (including in the company I work at) are aware. It’s not great for career progression. But I a

With age, I've realized that new shiny things don't do much for me. The opposite has become apparent, in fact. The value I derive from using something increases over time as it ages. This works better with some things than others.
