The periodic resets could also be watchdog timer related (without knowing what level their hardware is running on). Too long of a loop without resetting the timer (in a long loop), then the hardware also gets reset.

In C it also helps to think of it in the equivalent pointer form: p == &(p[0]) p[0] == *(p+0) p[1] == *(p+1) where p is a pointer to some arbitrary data type. Then it becomes an offset in memory.

In my opinion this article and others I've seen like it seem have everything backwards. For new graduates I wouldn't recommend living in downtown San Diego, at least not right now. It's (relatively) expensive and can get old
