At least you admit now that it actually is breaking the law.

It's not illegal to pay for it with a physical check; it's illegal (unless your original agreement automatically terminated after a year) to not then pay for the automatic renewal at the end of the year.

Is this legal? I assume if they wanted to (which admittedly is unlikely) they could send you to collections for not paying for the renewal that you agreed to when you subscribed.

To expand upon this a little, it's worth noting that the book and the code are licensed separately and differently.

This is not quite right... First off I think you want "regsub -all ...". Second, since your regsub isn't really replacing newlines (except the first), the example isn't so good - your "set foo ..." works withou

You should really spend a little time learning ansible before you critique it. Ansible isn't perfect, but the things you describe aren't how ansible works in general, so they aren't even valid criticism. For example, it has i

The hard stateful parts should be your data layer (replicated db, etc) and everything else should be cached stateless data. IAC for the stateful layer is tough but contained. IAC for the rest should be fairly recreatable quite quickly.

In some programs (compilers included), removing the limits and relying on detecting OOM is not a bad design decision. In others (most notably network-facing programs, but there are other categories), it can be quite a big problem to not hav

It's mostly based on manipulating lists. Scoping is a bit odd, but if you squint, the fact that unevaluated lists are passed into functions where they can be manipulated (by normal tcl list functions) and then evaluated in the caller&#

An argument assumes if it doesn't back up the assertion with reasoning. For an argument to state, it needs more; as written, it wasn't really an argument to begin with. It was just a theoretical supposition.

I don't see anything in dragonwriter's response that attacks you and not your argument. Perhaps you just disagree with the phrasing, but to me, "you assume" in this context is short for "you assume in your argument&

This line of reasoning works adequately when looking at a single program, but when you look at a larger group of programs, performance still matters. The more performant each individual program, the more programs can be run simultaneously.

While offline first seems to be discussed in the context of web apps a lot, to me it is more about the data and synchronization than where the executable lives, and most of the ideas also apply to certain kinds of desktop software.

This (this specific news as well as crypto in general) still feels like externalizing a fairly important cost - the energy usage required to keep this world-wide distributed ledger going. Change my mind?

Seems like exception handling and exception safety would be quite tough to achieve if you are just sprinkling STL throughout a mostly C codebase, no?
