Looks like the initial concept got lost in translation. The original “arewefastyet” was created to focus relentlessly on one single goal and be accountable by making it public. If you have fifteen of those hidden under funny URLs you’re k

Like, for example? Micronesia? You may want to update your world view for the 21st century - there is no “wild west” left, every country where this matters will have financial regulations.

Well, down here in the real world, a 100% statistical chance is as good as it gets. Why would you try any other strategy with historical success < 100%, or more likely, unknown?

Yes, you can argue that, but it’s statistics, and includes the three big crashes the market has lived through. It’s a 20 year period for a reason - it’s how long it would have taken you to recover from 1929 if you bought at the peak just

Exactly. That theory is that the market will always go up long term (because capitalism is inherently inflationary) and historically, DCA plus holding has always given returns over a > 20y period with any reasonably mixed basket. A “di

It literally has 100% guaranteed return over a period of 20 years, going back all the way to the first stock exchange. Not the best returns though.

Built to “excite plasma balls” sounds like it would be creating plasma balls if it’s own. It was used as a scatter radar to study plasma in the upper atmosphere.

The alcohol industry you’re thinking of is more of beer and spirits. There are ton of studies showing benefits from wine, it’s not quite the same.

As a counterpoint to all the other comments: EU, my electric bike has a belt. Most high end electrics do. Might not be the same outside of the cycle countries (nl, dk...).

50mb for a build tool is still ludicrous. Very few product codebases will ever reach that size. In my experience there is a strong correlation between executable size and how hard it is to unravel any issue that arises in it.

There are in fact a lot of “how to make Coca Cola” videos. They should fall under fair use (educational) and do not really infringe on the trademark (unless you’re selling it).

Yes, networking as in fetch/XHR, web sockets, HTTP, REST, protocols, performance and so on. How your frontend code runs. All I mentioned are strictly frontend skills, not anywhere near full-stack.

I know exactly who posted the article, thank you. I simply disagree that you can be a frontend engineer in the usual meaning it has without some level of those skills. Doesn’t mean anyone is less capable, deserving or cannot make a living

He is not one of the React authors, common misconception (his bio says “I didn’t make react” as a nod to that). He wrote the Redux library. Not that I would care either way - this is about skill sets and not personalities.

YMMV and I know I’ll be judged a gatekeeper, but not knowing: networking, modern CSS, some familiarity with SASS, CORS, basic deployment / platforms, and graphics APIs (!) all seem like pretty gaping holes for a frontend engineer - you

Haha, this was great. I arrived at an article about “John Frum” which did sound like a secret, and was quite the rabbit hole [1]. It got me worried about history. The whole story sounds like 90s zine fiction, which I think it is - there is

That’s really not a good example. The polynomial-driven cars behave erratically and slow down for no reason - fixable, but the key is that improving that behaviour will take many man hours of trial-and-error work and math, where the ML ve
