Facebook may have played a special part here with their real name policy. Before, it was normal to have a relatively anonymous persona online, which drastically reduces the bullying and reputation risks.

AMD has not beat Intel until the very latest release, so it makes sense to speak of them beating the market leader. The M1 also tops the latest Ryazan CPU which came out a week ago, especially considering TDP, so what would it add to the re

I have no idea how you could make that argument after looking at the stats posted. Guess you must live in USA fantasy-land?

Especially considering the death toll from Corona is about 6k people so far (which is a lot for a small country). It is about the same as all deaths caused by respiratory diseases in 2019: https://www.statista.com/statisti

Is the post missing the bottom half? Where is the business, when does it open, does it have a website? What are the four flavors? (for the food geeks: talk of bastardization of food! This Texas creation has almost zero resemblance to the or

The fiber will impact the absorption rate and insulin spike, but in the end you’ll have consumed the same amount of sugar. For calorie-counting purposes, or say, avoiding gout due to fructose intake, there will be no difference.

Sugar is sugar. HFCS is a bit worse, but in the broader context of dietary intake it will make no difference.

Fantastic performance as in? Quadcopters routinely reach 60km/h, and cheap racing models can go over 100km/h. I doubt any kind of heli will ever perform like that

I don’t mean that kind of humanity-defining breakthroughs, but the kind that depend on OSS libraries - new social, entertainment, commerce and productivity tools that change our lives incrementally.

AGPL basically kills any commercial use of the code, which is where 95% of real breakthroughs happen.

I did some benchmarking on that public taxi rides dump (~600m records) and could run through it all in under 15 seconds directly from SSD. No way in hell your CPU will keep up with anything close to memory bandwidth or beyond 3GB/s.

That’s not how MacOS works. It “keeps the pressure on” so to speak to try and have as much in-memory before you need it. Have you experienced actual issues with specific software?

The performance improvements here are astounding. I can’t even remember when we last saw a 2x improvement in CPU perf, much less 3-5x and with better battery life to boot!

I agree wholeheartedly with that. I thought you were proposing a form of hybrid paid-OSS as many seem to want now. If you want to make a living, make it a business (yes, someone will have to deal with the business stuff).

I meant you’re wrong about Redis. It was in a unique position for a long time, if you pulled it out there would be nothing to really replace it. RedisLabs does charge for redis (extensions, and support) and seems to be doing pretty damn wel

Almost every project I worked on had a shitty version of faker, written in half an hour for specific needs. It’s a very cosmetic thing, as you’d never rely on this type of dataset for testing actual behaviour of critical code.
