That's not necessary though, if it works fast enough on a relational database in my opinion. I think this article has some valuable insight on the topic: http://www.chrisstucchio.com/blog/2013/hadoop_hatred.ht

I don't see why the future wouldn't be polyglot, in the sense that there isn't one language as dominant as Java has been. There is now much better language interop than in the past, e. g looking at C interop in Julia and Java

Sorry. I regtretted my comment the minute I sent it. I wish you all the best for your product. I meant the thing about forcing the driver in a sarcastic way.

This article makes me almost sure that this company will not exist for much longer. Such a complicated and twisted thinking about a conceptually simple microeconomic question is not a good sign. Why not just force drivers to accept any ride

It's incorrect that salted hashes are obsolete or quickly attackable per se. Password hashes are a subset of all hashes. Therefore they are hashes. bcrypt uses an internal salt (as it says in the first two sentences of its Wikipedia pa

This just seems like an ad hominem attack. Just because the author works at Microsoft does not mean that he is speaking for Microsoft or talking on their behalf.

I don't think that's specific to programming. It's what we all experience when we procrastinate. Set yourself small very clear goals which you write down and where you commit yourself to finishing them in a given amount of ti

I wonder if the way that atom was built is or can turn into a good way to build modern cross platform desktop apps while employing web technologies. Does anyone have any input or actual experience with this?

Once you have used a parsing library to create generic data structures (in your programming language) from your JSON all of this no longer has anything to do with JSON, right? That's something that confuses me about this blog post. To

That's true, but it's generally like this with any Java application. The JVM starts in 0.3 seconds, but loading all your classes usually takes seconds. I don't know the arcitecture well enough, but I think it's because i

There's really no need to apologize for this in my opinion. If people decide to trust a complete non-source that's their problem. It's actually a fascinating demonstration of the dynamics of these rumors.

I'll try to dispel some of the concerns about Clojure. 1) Stacktraces in JVM may be ugly, but the amount of insight into runtime issues that the JVM offers you is generally way higher than in runtimes like cpython or MRI. 2) Clojure gi

IgorPartola means that it is exactly this "unlimited" policy which chills her. She speculates (or knows) that there is some unspokenen abuse limit and she fears that she might hit it at some point. I don't think this is relev

Concerning this issue please also consider Mathias Bynens's article from 2012 http://mathiasbynens.be/notes/mysql-utf8mb4 It has a good treatment of how to migrate encoding-wise which includes additional precauti

In order for your statement to be true you would pretty much have to buy into a Marxist value theory that virtually no economists today agree with, and which is highly implausible under scrutiny.

I didn't initially understand from your post that you would have actually lost 50% had you cancelled yourself even months in advance. I agree that this does seem imbalanced.

any party in almost any such setting, including hotels, could cancel two months in advance without fees. I really don't know what the big deal is.

I understand that MERGE or something like that would be a nice convenience. But if I personally had this situation what I would do is (in pseudo code, but think this would be in e. g. Python, or in a stored procedure): begin transaction

It's kind of condescending to say something like that though because we have no direct understanding of how other people feel. Most people do not kill themselves. It's possible that those which try simply feel worse than those tha
