That wasn't a very good essay. Kind of sad that it gets voted so high. First and foremost it's way way too long for little actual content.

Saying that Make is a horribly implemented Shell dialect clearly seems like a misrepresentation of Make to me. Make is a non-procedural way to describe the dependencies of your build process. You describe what you want as a result rather th

Personally I would make models a package rather than just a module (since you sy you have a lot of order related logic). I would create one or more modules in this package, presumably one of those for orders. Then I would actually create th

you could simply use unbound functions which you put into a Python module which fits the bill. For example you could create a file services.py - or something more related to your actual domain.

I think this was a worthwhile talk. The speaker makes some interesting points about the importance of "ergonomic properties" of languages. He convincingly explains why PHP was so succesful: Workflow (just hot reload), Concurrency

So if you do arbitrary stuff which kind of makes sense to make a webapp more attractive (or not) we call this "growth hack" now? That's just ridiculous.

Do you know what portion of total "link karma" on HN has been "gathered" by the top 100 contributors?

On the other hand you will definitely need these tools (or similar techniques) to do state of the art Python development anyway.

what's a "join table" even? This speaks to a lack of understanding of how relational databases should best be used.

I think saying that some examples are just performance disadvantages rather than leaks misses the point. "Leaky" is a metaphor here, so assuming that any kind of actual data loss is necessary for it to be the case seems incorrect

The way I imagine node development is pure hell. You have this event loop where if you screw anything up your whole app immediately comes to a grinding halt. You don't have any mature standard library. Instead you have 8 gazillion libr

The problem with this solution is that there's no real authorisation or role model built in. For example, if an employee leaves the company, you will have to change the password safe's password, and almost nobody does that. It
