Aaaand that's why I don't have the Java plugin installed. Anywhere. I'd like to think that we're almost to the point of viewing Java in the same light as Bonzi Buddy or Comet Cursor; IT discovers you got Java on your computer again, they ju

I'm thinking of buying one of those Raspberry Pi cameras when they become available and whipping up a bit of Go code to make my own dashcam for < $100. I think it would work great. You could even add a cheap USB wifi dongle and have it

You should be checking errors immediately after they are returned. Once you've checked it, re-use the variable: x, err := f(a) if err != nil { // probably time to return from the func } y, err := g(x) // we have at least 1 new var,

Yes, but then you're stuck using C++, RAII, and exceptions. Let's not even get into which smart pointer you should use--a Googler I know has recounted stories of massive internal mailing list arguments over exactly which of the half-dozen s

At the kind of project sizes you see at Google, you start to measure compilation time in tens of minutes. If you have a source control system that triggers an automatic build every time you upload a change for review, can you see how waitin

I'm going to make the argument that a lot, if not the majority, of C/C++ programmers don't need complete control over memory management. I think in many cases (not OS, not real-time), saying "but I need absolute control over memory manage
