I've been a Fastmail user for ages now. As I abhor and abjure web applications, my personal calculus is different than that of someone seeking to flee the UI changes that Google is implementing. Their IMAP service is rock solid and ver

Disagree. Why are those CMS so god-awful? What're the incentives that they're designed to achieve? Badness in tooling is usually a symptom , not a cause.

Yeah, this. Android hasn't been around long enough for people to develop the sort of attachment that some have with Apple. Nobody's grown up with Android (yet), nobody's gone through their spotty-faced advocacy phase shouting

That's what the term "railroaded" means in this context: that a person is not being subject to due process.

Regardless, it seems that they're railroading a guilty person.

I don't think it's so much "hypocritical" as "ineffective". I would have said "pointless", but venting spleen can be a healthy and enjoyable pastime.

I have one of the foot pedals, and I use it sometimes, but mostly to shock my coworkers. I never really got into the hang of using it in my day to day life.

It depends. I've used a lot in the ~20 years or so I've been programming; and I've come over the last decade or so to rely on the Kinesis Advantage. The big reason I chose it when I did is because it doesn't force your w

I'm pickier than the average bear w/r/t displays, and I have zero confidence in the marginal performance of OEM display electronics and panels. That this is targeted at the TV market just means that there's a bunch of ga

I don't, currently, because I don't have to monitor services, but if I did, I think I'd likely use daemontools, based on the fact that djb really, really understands how to write Unix software.

My gut feeling is that someone running Linux as their desktop OS has had to opt in; this means that the pool of potential desktop Linux game purchasers is more likely to be made up of people who are motivated by Linux itself; and that these

Oh, absolutely. I want to carry my data around with me, and access it via whatever the best interface at the moment is -- when I'm driving, when I'm walking around, when I'm at my desk. This phone isn't for me, but I can

A little hyperbole never hurt anybody. But they are off by at least one order of magnitude in terms of cost if they're thinking of doing really new things with a mobile device. Actually, upon reflection, the comparison to F1 is compl

It's an interesting project (not for me, personally, but hey, let a hundred flowers bloom and all that), but I think that they're overestimating the state of phone hardware commoditization, if they expect that they can pick and ch

NULLs are (NULL is?) the way they are in SQL (terrible) because SQL is, in fact, terrible. I never allow nullable columns in my tables, but have to deal with null semantics because of e.g. outer joins. It is to weep.
